San Diego! That's a nostalgia trip for me. I went to Navy boot camp there, and several tech schools -- basic electricity/electronics, radioman, and Morse code. I think the schools are still there but boot camp is long gone, all in Lake Bluff, Illinois now. Most of my duty stations are gone: boot camp; my ship USS Gallant, sold to Taiwan; the port at Subic Bay Philippines; the Naval Station at Midway Island now in custody of the Dept. of Interior; and I think the recruiting station at Milwaukee has gone from a historical old office building to a strip mall. Times they change. I went back to San Diego on business years later; I like it a lot. I especially like the Star of India, an old restored square rigger open for tours, now with other fine old boats and ships.
