Howdy everyone, I'm Austin. I've been lurking here a bit and figured I'd join. I dipped my toes into the pipe world about eight years ago and really loved it, but for whatever reason didn't keep it up. This year I got it in my head to pickup some tobacco from the local shop in Portland and instantly remembered why I was so enamored. I'm excited to learn as much as I can and have the beginnings of a cellar underway. I tend to lean towards english/balkan blends, but I think what excites me most is all of the different tobaccos that are out there from all over the world and how they come together in a blend.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know the community and gleaning some of the knowledge that is shared here!
Welcome Austin from Fresno, Ca! Which balkans are you liking? McConnell’s the Oriental is a fantastic Balkan blend.

Welcome from the Central Coast of California!

You can put your location in your Profile—(please!—because people will forget!) That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc., etc..
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. Just country if you must.

Oh I’ll look out for that one! I’ve been exploring the Seattle Pipe Club blends and I’ve been enjoying the Dan Tobacco Balkan also. I want to get my hands on some Samuel Gawith Balkan Flake. And TBH I’m not sure what differentiates a Balkan from an english, but the non aromatics with Latakias, orientals, and such have been where I’ve been most drawn.

A Balkan is an oriental forward english, so the orientals are in the front as far as flavor. I prefer balkans over traditional English blends for sure!

Here in N.C., soupy rainy all morning, then a blast of sun, and now gray again. Welcome aboard. At least the newspaper came in double-wrapped and dry, which isn't always true. Nothing sadder than a water-logged newspaper.
