Hello All!

I am an undergrad student in hilly Eastern Ohio, right across the river from West Virginia's northern panhandle and less than an hour's drive from Pittsburgh, PA. I am a student of Classics (Ancient Greek and Latin languages and history) and enjoy wearing tweed jackets, so pipe smoking fits right in alongside my other interests. I'm also interested in philosophy (no surprise there I suppose), classic, mostly European automobiles, other kinds of clothing besides tweed, and a wide variety of music, literature, and visual arts.

I picked up my first, dusty estate pipe from a local antique store about four years ago. I figure the evolution of my choice in tobaccos was fairly standard over those four years: cheap over-the-counter aromatics --> loved them --> read some aromatic bashing posts somewhere --> shunned aros --> tried English's and VA's around the same time in an attempt to achieve sophistication --> loved English's but couldn't taste VA's --> decided VAs were just too weak for a man such as my self --> realized I didn't know how to smoke anything properly --> worked on it --> reintroduced VA's --> loved them --> now happily smoke a bit of everything. I'm always looking for new blends to try, but some staples in my rotation that never let me down are Capstan Navy Flake, Mac Baren Bold Kentucky, GLP Maltese Falcon, and a few jars of an in-house English blend that I bought at a tobacconist somewhere in the Midwest.

I've been a frequent visitor to these forums for a few years, but only as an observer, and I decided it was time to join the fun. I look forward to engaging with you all and sharing our love for these dead plants and strange little devices that have brought us together.

Best Regards,
H.F.

I'm a former Classics student myself (only one tweed jacket, though). I particularly like Xenophon, Aristophanes, Horace, Juvenal, Aulus Gellius, Ausonius. Favourite philosophy - Nicomachean ethics. Welcome to the forum (or the agora, as it might be), from somewhere near Bravinium in Britannia Secunda :)
