LA to NO is about 35 hours of driving... But it is an amazing drive !

I know Kaiserslautern because a German Butcher here in Dallas emigrated from there in the 1950's.

His family owned the butchershop in Kaiserslautern since 1728, and opened one up here as well.

Best damn sausage in Dallas too ! http://www.kubys.com/history.asp

Hey, you guys know much more about Germany than I do, damn! At least about Trier and K-Town.. I'll definately enjoy the states, you can bet on that! LA --> NO really might be what I'll do in summer, sounds great.

Eddy,
Herzlich Wilkommen !
Nice collection and you will find this forum to be really helpful. Myself, transported Belgian to Texas since 1997. This is now home.. ;-)
Perhaps some points of reference to help you out planning your vacation. I'll send you a private message with my email address. Feel free to send me an email if you need advice, directions, help, etc..
If you're flying to LA, drive up to Vegas is not too bad. It's about what you would say, a 5 - 6 hour drive, depending on the stops you make.
Vegas to Dallas is roughly 1,200 miles or 20 hours. If you drive only 5 or 6 day, with stops perhaps, it'll take you four days. When I first moved here, driving from Dallas to Berea, KY is about 900 miles and would take me two days of about 8 hours driving. Now, I'm more used to the long hauls, but 8 hours remains a comfortable drive for a day. I regularly take a 450 mile trip (7-8 hours) down to the Texas Coast to go fishing.
The US is big.... very big.... as Europeans we really have no concept until we start driving around here. I have family in Kentucky (17 hours), Colorado (15 hours). You get used to it ;-)
Once again, welcome on board, have a seat, buckle up and enjoy the ride.

L.A to La is a good two full day car ride . Please vist New Orleans in the fall or winter . Summers in the south are hot and humid . With giant bugs trying to eat you . Those are great pipes you have there . :D

If you're in the Dallas area, Two Brothers cigars is a great place to smoke! It's in downtown Plano, actually and near a great Austrian restaurant owned by a great guy named Jorg.

If you make your way to Dallas, let me know. I'll give you the standard tour for Europeans. This includes Barbecue, Off Road driving, and shooting high power rifles.

Everybody that knows anything knows you have to smoke it yourself, or drive to Coopers in Llano if you want the best brisket !

Lets get together before then, what you say Baron ?

Never been there, so can't judge.
I love Blacks in Lockhart. You can keep Kreuz and Smitty's down there, but Blacks.. oh yeah !

Paul: true that !
Funny enough, the same applies here when I tell stories that I used to go hang out in the South of France, or go ski in Austria, climb mountains in Switzerland or have good food and vacations in Italy. All within a 10 hour drive. My hometown to Paris: 3 hour drive. I hate the place, my wife loves it.. go figure ;-)
