Welcome! Haven’t heard of the owl shop, but I like the sounds of it!Hi all,
I'm Pete! I'm a longtime smoker (quit smoking cigarettes about five years ago, but still enjoyed the occasional cigar since), but new to pipes. I stopped drinking alcohol over the summer, and one unexpected side effect was a renewed craving for tobacco. I'm lucky enough to live close to The Owl Shop, a tobacconist and cigar bar in New Haven, Connecticut, so I got myself a Briarworks bent apple pipe and some of their in-house blends and I was off to the races. I was also lucky enough to get a former neighbor's pipe collection at an estate sale recently, which already brings my collection up to 5 pipes!
I still have plenty to learn but I've really been enchanted by this hobby. So far I like English blends (Peterson Nightcap and the Owl Shop's "Harkness Tower" Balkan blend especially). I'd like to get more into Virginias, but the only one I've been able to try so far, Davidoff flake medallions, bites my tongue something fierce (trying to let it mellow in a jar for a while). This forum has already been a great resource.
Anyway, hi!
