Welcome aboard. I like cigars too but like pipes so much more. I buy a box about once or twice a year. The thing is I can tell differences in cigars but at the end of the day the profile range of cigars is much narrower then pipe tobacco.
I have to ask what's the issue with the Vauen. My one is probably one of my best pipes. Then again my Rattray's is exceptional aside from having a small chamber and a pencil shank.

I definitely agree with you on the difference between pipe tobacco and cigars.

I made a separate thread about the Vauen but basically, the stem was poorly fit to begin with and the connector eventually pulled out and Vauen just told me it wouldn't be worth it to send it back. This is a pipe with an MSRP over $400. It's not even like I'm expecting them to pay for shipping back and forth to Germany and fix it. I like all my Vauen pipes a lot too so it's disappointing.
