Hello guys,

neat Forum here. I recently purchased a Peterson 303 and have been enjoying exploring this hobby, finding it considerably more interesting than the act of merely smoking tobacco. So many neat pipes out there, tobaccos, and so on to explore and discover. Only natural that the characters surrounding such a hobby will be plenty interesting too! I think part of whats appealing to me is the many intricacies of right and wrong ways of doing things, peoples opinions And experiences, and the dialogue that follows. Something else that appeals to me is the process of cleaning and maintaining the pipe. Kind of odd maybe, but it’s satisfying. Indeed a unique community of people enjoying a terrific ritual in tobacco smoking.
I would like to slowly build a small rotation of a few pipes. As said, I currently have the Peterson 303, and am attracted to the Irish harp 69, the 408, and savinelli 626 and 603, for examples.
cheers,
Ben

Oh man, in trying to explain this you all will really see how much of a newb I am here….lol.

so first thing I did was bought a big can of captain black original, which in hindsight maybe shouldnt have done. After smoking a few other tobaccos I can see it’s pretty straight forward and maybe not the highest quality. Having said that, I like it enough and I suppose it’s been a good one to use to start to figure out how to properly draw, and just in general smoke.
For those familiar, I live in Palmer, but have been to both G and P Tobaccos and 5th Avenue Cigars in anchorage, and have purchased small bags from each of them, both house blends. One was a more aromatic blend, which i like ok, and the other was less fruity and sweet like an aromatic, and more tobacco smelling and almost woodsmokey smelling. Of course the tobacconist told me everything about the tobacco I’m sure but it went over my head. Whatever it is i like it a lot and will find out and probably explore that alley of tobacco blends. I could use a visit to one of the shops during a non rushed piece of time and have the tobacconist give me a beginners education, setting out and going over a bunch of blends.
Anyways long answer, but I guess point is I don’t really know yet! Part of the fun I guess.

Welcome! I’ve been to Palmer once or twice…try some Sir Walter Aromatic along the way. Truly, welcome to the forums. Great people and knowledge here.

I like my Savinelli and Peterson pipes well. Opinions vary, but those sound good to me.
