Welcome! I think we have a few members from Asheville.

You can put your location in your Profile—(please!—because people will forget!) That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc., etc..
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. Just country if you must.

Welcome aboard from Florida.
1-Dry your Tobacco
2-Start with a light English blend or a proven OTC (like Prince Albert or Carter Hall) to acclimate you palate
3-Sip your tobacco slowly. Don’t puff
4-Enjoy the ride.
This is what a lot of us do:
A - We don't dry our tobacco
B - We start with something quality but straight such a good straight bright leaf Virginia
C - We puff
D - We enjoy the ride
There are many ways to enjoy a pipe, don't get bogged down into one way on here; many think there is only one way to smoke a pipe, and that is simply not true.

Thank you for openly correcting my poor advice . I’ll go sit in the corner now and keep my mouth shut.

This is a public forum, I don't know how else I could have corrected it puffy
Don’t worry about correcting me, concern yourself more with correcting you.

Or, to be more to the point, consider less what you say and more how you say it. But, this is a public forum after all, be as insolent as you please...

Thanks for playing.

How do you define "a lot"?

On A I'd say you're in the <5% minority.
On B, perhaps the 10% minority.
C and D - Sure, we all try to do so.

Just because anyone that does anything differently and members like you pile on and call them names like idiots, doesn't mean there aren't a lot of us out there that simply don't want to go through the ridicule...me, on the other hand, couldn't give a rats ass what other members (like you) say.

To be honest, I was only trying to give the OP advice that worked well for me starting out (after all, he did ask for advice) and WAS NOT just spouting my biased opinion. I truly believe the advice that I gave is helpful to anyone just starting out. It helped me and I learned most of it here. ?

Welcome aboard from the capital of The Old North State. I love your city, the Thomas Wolfe house, and surrounding mountains, the arts scene, the food, and the folks.

I completely understand, that's why I was taken aback when you became offended. One thing I even left the forum for over the summer was because of members like @jpmcwjr that seem to think everyone does things their way, and their way is the only way, and that's simply not true.

For him to say that less than 5% don't dry out their tobacco? Is he joking? What an ass...most of us have other things to do that to sit on our asses watching tobacco dry...I have never ever in my life (nearly 40 years smoking a pipe) actually took out pipe tobacco and set it aside to dry...never...and I'm not alone.

The cancel culture on this forum is better since Kevin put his foot down for sure, but there are still pockets of it, and the last thing we need is for new smokers to be bullied into the dominant paradigms of this forum...it just pisses me off.

Damn that felt good puffy

I hear you, brother and I actually thought that you were trying to cancel me...obviously I was wrong.

I’m cool with you if you’re cool with me? By the way, my name is Bob. Nice to meet you.
