I got into collecting pipes nearly 50 years for the wonderful artwork (specifically meerschaum), but did very little smoking before this year and only discovered this forum this past February.
I still have my first pipe (a Turkish meerschaum) and I’m actually smoking it as I write this.
Some of the most wonderful meerschaum carvings have come from your part of the world and you might want to watch estate sales etc, because Turkey no longer exports raw meerschaum and the Austrian/European pieces are getting rare as hen’s teeth! ::
