Somebody might have been pulling my chain, but allegedly in Tasmania there's a custom called "getting it over and done with" around the age of 21, and this is having all of one's teeth pulled, thus saving any further dental intervention in a land almost devoid of dentists.

Dental health is a huge problem here for sure. I don’t suffer but if you crack a good joke at the pub the extent of the problem becomes immediately known.
