Well, things just keep getting better and better. As a few of you know, my dad's Parkinson's has been worsening recently and I've had to make a couple of trips to go see him and help out my mom since she doesn't get around too well anymore. That's been tough but I can deal with it. Well, over the last week and during the weekend things got worse. My job was complicated by a few more "initiatives" handed down by our district. My wife found out that even though she has nothing to do with teaching the English classes she, and the rest of the teachers, will be "held accountable" for the scores of our students on the reading and writing sections of the state tests. So now, her job depends on how students do on a test she can't prepare them for and the students have no personal reason to pass. Then, on the 4 hour trip to help with my father-in-law's garage sale over the weekend, I ran over a road gator and scratched up the side of my good car when it flipped up.
After spending 8 hours sitting at the garage sale, we went to have dinner with the family. That is usually a happy thing since that side of the family is really fun to be around. It turned out we weren't just having dinner, it was the family meeting to discuss what to do with my wife's grandmother who has dementia and is almost out of money for the nursing home. A few of the family members have borrowed a significant amount of her money and Medicaid will not pay until her funds have been depleted so that money has to appear NOW. So guess who is now expected to donate to the cause to keep her in the home...nope you're wrong, it's my wife and I along with one of my wife's cousins. Things got pretty tense at that meeting. Naturally my wife is taking the news that her grandmother might not get the care she needs pretty hard since her granny basically took care of her for the early years of her life. That was a long 4 hour ride back home.
Sorry about unloading but I need to get it out somehow. I guess the real point of this is to ask if you all would send some thoughts or prayers out for my wife and her grandmother.
Thanks,

Dave

Oh man. I really hope the situation improves. That sounds like a couple of bad situations. Best of luck to you and the Mrs.

You and the Mrs. are in my prayers in the hope of a solution to the problem. I hope also that those who borrowed the money will realize that they are accountable for it -- not you.

Thank you both. I am glad to help one of those who borrowed money as she has recently been out of work with a blood infection and is in dire need of a hip and knee replacement. The other has no excuse and I'm trying to be positive about it.
