Ran a few simple errands yesterday as the sky darkened -- some kitty litter from the grocery, some take-out lunch for my wife and me, and mailing a magazine subscription. Humdrum. However, the sky became darker and darker in the menacing way it does. My last stop was in a parking lot within walking distance of a postal mail box, about two hundred feet way. I figured I would get there and back before anything happened with the weather. Bad choice. I'd just heard the envelop hit the bottom of the post box when the wind hit me like a wall, my hat blew off, and in a few seconds buckets of rain hit me and soaked through my clothes, literally seconds, and thunder and lightning and cracking limbs were all around me. I really considered it might be my time had come. The wind was circular. I actually grabbed my hat (my much loved MM cob hat!) which wasn't all that smart in terms of time, and fought my way back to my car, dragging in much water with me. This is the most direct personal assault from the weather I have experienced in fifty years, since a typhoon in the South China Sea on a minesweeper. I think it was a tornado trying to be born. The tornado didn't quite make it, so I did. Good to be here. Anyone else having weather adventures this week?

We have almost another foot of snow coming tonight. It’s getting hard to put it somewhere, as everyone’s lawn is already several feet under the previous snows. If I angle the snowblower high enough to get the snow to the top of the pile, it rolls down the other side onto the neighbours driveway.

The little ones enjoy the 10-15 foot high hills that the snowplows put up.

A mild winter for us so far, aside from a couple weeks of -20F temps at the beginning of the year. Average snow fall, some wind that resulted in a nearly 24 hour power outage. All things considered, pretty normal. Once you've experienced enough immediate weather assaults in the air in a single engine Cessna, anything on the ground seems pretty doable.

Sounds like an interesting experience though. Weather sure can impress you from time to time. Really reminds you who's boss.

Windy in big gusts but sunny earlier, but now, headed out for errands again, the sky is getting that steely gray behind the clouds. This is a different kind of weather and winter. It makes me want to do right and behave myself.

I love all types of weather, and enjoy them in the moment, except for oppressive humidity with high heat. Sounds like you had quite a surprise adventure, MSO! Glad you made it out relatively unscathed!

I’ve just moved and swapped the 35c+ temp 60% humidity of Sydney with no rain and lots bushfires in the state for the 35c+ 90% humidity and rain and thunderstorms of São Paulo. Definitely no snow in either location.

We have had NO winter yet. Very depressing...
the thing I love most about living here is that we have EXACTLY 4 seasons. I personally love the extremes of -15F in the winter with snow piled up, to 99F and 90% humidity in July or August. BUT - nothing that extreme lasts too long. A few days of those extremes. Spring blooms, and fall foliage are just awesome as well.
