Is there a real heavy latakia blend you guys know of that is a bit lighter in strength? Nicotine is not always my friend and though I've been interested in trying Ten Russians and similar blends just to experience that latakia jolt I do not want to blindsided and sent spinning. I am influenced by Bob's review but I am also put off by the possibility of a turned stomach thanks to overpowering nicotine. To summarize, what blends would deliver full latakia flavour with only a "medium" strength? Any suggestions?
For reference, some of the English blends I own: (mostly moderate strength)
-Westminster

-Piccadilly

-London Mixture

-Three Oaks Syrian

-Wilderness

-Legends

-Balkan Sasieni

*Balkan Supreme

*Gordon Pym
*I have only smoked the last two, to date.

Sparroa: Definitely get some Penzance in your pipe. Great latakia taste low nicotine. When you try the Balkan Sasieni you won't be purchasing the Balkan Supreme. Sasieni is much better.

Sparroa, there are many 'Lat bombs' out there..I particularrly like GLP ASBURY, full flavor, and SAMARRA as well..not very strong but full of flavor. Now, as the title implies, I think Charles FAIRMON's LANCER'S SLICES is a rok your sox off latakia.

Latakia has less nicotine than the vast majority of Virginia blends, and certainly burley blends. You might not be as sensitive to these heavy latakia blends as you might think.

mjtannen,

I was one of the lucky ones who managed to land two tins of Penzance last week. They are on the way! I think I will definitely have to try one immediately, just because I'm so curious. I wasn't sure if it was strong or not in reality, hard to gauge by reviews alone.
Fatman,

Thanks for those recommendations, I've been wondering about all those you recommended - especially Asbury and Lancer's Slice's but I was hesitant, again, because of a presumed strength. I'm willing to chance it, I think! What is your opinion on Charing Cross - have you ever had it? That blend was also high up in my GLP considerations.
Ted,

I appreciate your raising that point. I've read that somewhere about latakia carrying less nicotine itself, but I presumed a lot of the "strong Latakia" blends out there were fortified with stout constituent tobaccos. I'm eager for full flavour without the ills that go along with full strength - I'm glad you're all telling me I can have my cake and eat it too! I've mostly been smoking Virginia or VaPer of late, and if I go a week without it I notice the difference in nicotine delivery quite a bit. Perhaps I will be fine with the full Latakias - thanks for the reassurance!

bowhatchie,
Billy Budd is one that really scares me. The cigar leaf AND burley and VAs. too? It sounds interesting to try and everyone loves it but I don't think I'm brave enough yet...

That TR.com "Strong" isn't very encouraging to me...
:worship: Here's to you who can!

Sparroa, I have an opened tin of Charing Cross and w/out a bit of discernment, it could pass for MARGATE. A bit heavier on the Lat weed, but overall good...perfect w/a good cup 'o jo!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it all...
Fatman,

Margate has been on my list for a long time - I may just have to pick up both and see which one I favour. Didn't find it too strong? Or are you one of the ones immune to nicotine? :)

William,

I finally found that back in stock just yesterday for the first time in at least 3 months. Reading the reviews, I seem to find that people indicate it is "strong". I wish I could be sure they were rating it's nicotine or whether or not they're just commenting on the latakia taste. I trust your judgment, though, and may purchases this one soon - I certainly considered it myself but I am always hesitant because "medium" rated tobaccos can often get the best of me.
