Haven’t smoked much in the way of H&H blends. Cracked to tins, both coin open twist tops vacuum sealed. Cerberus was basically bone dry. El Niño was extremely moist. Any thoughts and experiences?

My tins of Blackhouse, Viprati, and Magnum Opus seem to be a perfect smoking moisture when I open them. I’ve never bought any of their blends in the pop-top tins, but the screw-off tins have retained ideal moisture in my experience.

Good to know. It’s funny to me that these two are polar opposites in terms of moisture. I have tins of Blackhouse and White Knight as well but haven’t opened them yet.

Good to know. I have unopened tins of Cerberus, Blackhouse, Viprati, and Magnum Opus. Hopefully all are okay as I probably won't get to them for a bit...

Cerberus and Blackhouse if I recall were really dry. Smoked quite a few tins of each. Have not tried the other ones.

Heh, I was just smoking El Nene last night and what remained in the bowl to-day. I got the tin about two years ago and jarred it upon receiving it: it's still quite moist, not soggy, but indeed moist. I had to dry it for ~30 minutes under a desk lamp and it was still a wee bit moist when I packed it. In the words of @jiminks: "it required more than an average number of relights".

Then again, all my pipes require several relights. I've never managed to smoke anything with only two matches.

I’ve honestly never tried the actual Hearth & Home branded tobaccos that I can remember, but have smoked many of the same blends that are also offered as bulk from Sutliff. From memory, I believe they were all quite damp. It was water moisture though, not PG dampness, as they all dried quite quickly. BSOMM (White Knight), BS759 Match (Black House), and Chatham Manor I have on hand, and checked to verify. All damp in the jar.

Do you know if there is a bulk for El Niño? Good stuff!

Hearth and Home blends are generally packed at what Russ considers an optimal smoking moisture to bring out the flavors of that blend. This more often than not translates to dry, or drier than many other blenders' tinnings. Most H&H blends I just smoke straight from the tin. There are a few that I think can use a little bit more dry time, but not by much.

If there's a bulk for El Niño, you'll find it at P&C, since H&H blends are owned by P&C.
