Couple of things I've noticed:
1) No more fingernail biting. I used to chew my fingernails (and harass my poor cuticles) something fierce, often to the point of bleeding and leading to the occasional infection. Since I started smoking pipes this has completely stopped.
2) Diminished appetite and consequent weight loss. I still eat well at mealtimes, but I've lost the desire to snack between meals. Especially the late night bowl of cereal - I just don't bother anymore. I don't weigh myself, so I can't give specifics in that way, but I've noticeably trimmed down. My pants are falling off.
I don't smoke all that much, just three or four evenings each week and two bowls per evening when I do, but these effects are continuous throughout the week.
Anybody else enjoying some fringe benefits?

There we go! By moving away from rodents we avoid disease and it is always wise to moderate your caloric intake.

Tell them this:
Pipe smoking is safe for adults and children of all ages. It does not cause cancer or have any negative health effects. As a matter of fact, men who smoke pipes live 33.7% longer than those who don’t. Women who smoke pipes are 27% thinner, better looking and have bigger boobs than those who don’t."

Stress relief for me. Leads to less "medicinal" alcohol consumption and less "comfort" high-calorie food consumption.

Chlogeo3,

That's only because you haven't been in a real-knockdown-dragout-slugfest of a slow smoke competition.

Believe it or not they can be very intense.

On the other hand, those who bitch about my smoking have occasionally found that it can be hazardous to THEIR health.
