That is disappointing. I've never been in a shop that discriminates against pipe smokers.

I can't wait to go there. I guess we got double decker bus passes for the weekend an the bus stops right next to the shop. That way I can get off and the wife and kid can go else where. I don't have much money but I'll have to buy something as a momento.

I was in there for 30 minutes and it sucked because you need more time in a shop like that. I didn't get to check out the conference room. I don't understand why they won't let you smoke a pipe in there. You mean city regulations? If it is just store policy and a party wanted to smoke a pipe then I doubt they would turn us down.

Al, I didn't say they discriminate against pipe smokers. In fact, I said (twice) that I was unsure what their policy was regarding that specific AREA of their shop, which is a cigar lounge and was designated as such when they recently opened it. When a cigar lounge is opened and grandfathered in under the smoking laws, often times they have a stipulation that if you're opening a cigar lounge, no other smoking can occur, which is presumably done to discourage/enact anti-cigarette laws. I do know that in the main store section, cigars and pipes are allowed.

Either way it would be a cool place to meet up. I probably wouldn't be able to regardless. But for those who have never been there it is worth the trip.

Gotcha Adam12, I was the one who used "discriminate". One day I'll make it to Chicago and will definitely check out the shop.

Iwan Ries is great; so is UpDowns on Wells. Another great place is The Cigar King in Skokie: watches, pipes and tobacco, along with cigars and a large smoking lounge to boot.
