I have a similar experience. Tried several whiskies with the pipe, but didn't like it. Both lost some of the taste. After several tries I have decided to do each separately. Though I don't care too much for aromatics, I do like to match Half & Half with black coffee in the morning.

I find that water with ice works well for me. I have seen several posts whereby a Dr. Pepper is the choice. I might want to give this a go.

Coffee, tea, water and occasionally something bitter like tonic or bitter lemon. Alcohol just makes me smoke nonstop, craving for smoking so I avoid alcohol

I don’t drink alcohol, but sometimes drink hot tea with my pipe (while smoking a pipe, I mean. Not using it as a straw.). I usually go with English tea blends like Yorkshire Red or Gold. Black or red Chinese teas hold up to smoking ok too. I’d go with pu’erh, which is aged and more fermented than an oolong, rich and earthy or a Keemun tea like Golden Monkey, which has a sort of coffee-like and slightly chocolatey flavour. The latter is a good point from which to test the waters with teas for a coffee drinker or chocolate lover.
