Hey everyone, new to posting on this forum. Been lurking for awhile but thought I’d speak up and add to the wealth of knowledge here. I started smoking pipes five years ago and it is by far my favorite hobby next to collecting swords no doubt.

I’ll ask my question first then explain so you can skip the next part if you don’t care. Has anyone ever had a Vauen pipe burnout on them due to defect and not neglect?

I was doing a bit of research on pipe brands not long ago and decided to dive into the very highly regarded Vauen. I own several Petersons, Savinelli and one Nording. I did some research and found that if you google “Vauen Pipe Burnout” I could find zero results. If you did the same thing with Peterson or savinelli I found several long articles or threads dedicated to this. Now granted some people probably have had it but never posted about it, I just found it peculiar and wanted to share my findings and ask this question to see where everyone else is at with this in the pipe community. I ask this question to determine “does purchasing Vauen pipes put you at less of a risk of burnout than any other manufacturer?” Thanks for the replies!

Biggest risk of burnout is down to the pipe smoker, rather than the pipe maker I would of thought. Only pipe I burnt out was a falcon bowl once. My own fault as I was driving with the window down.

I would imagine that burnout is possible in any pipe due to unseen defects in the briar, but the percentage of burnouts would be low. If the pipe is too hot to handle, you are smoking too fast. Vauen pipes should hold up as well as any pipe. Take your time and enjoy the smoking experience. If the pipe is hot, your mouth and tongue will be hot and you won't enjoy the taste or your pipe as well.

I’ve yet to have a burnout thankfully. I just recently got a Vauen Auenland and I love it. It’s just a fascinating thing to me about pipes. You can get a pipe that’s perfect for all intents and purposes and 3-5 bowls in and it starts to burn through without warning. I’m always worried about if I got that one bowl that had that hidden defect. I’m always on edge for the first 10 bowls of any pipe.

Mine too! Keep me posted
Mine is an Olaf bent egg unsmoked estate pipe with some deep sandblast and few pits on the outside and was probably returned for that reason as they advertised it "with pits around bowl". I don't think it will be an issue for many years to come. It does have thin walls though and has to be sipped not stoked otherwise its to hot to handle. I may have to dedicate it to tobaccos I don't smoke often. My regular favorites I tend to smoke fast and often !

Also new here.
I have quite a few Vauen pipes and no, it's never happened to me.
Not for any circumstances.

I’ve got a brand new Vauen Almar. Nice long churchwarden and a great look and feel. It also has very thick walls. I have only gotten it very hot twice out of maybe 30 bowls. Both have been because I was reading or not paying attention. I quickly dumped the rest of the bowl and gave it a nice long rest. I am paranoid about burnouts haha

What models do you have? I love the brand so far. It smokes better than any savinelli I’ve smoked before
