Royal Yacht was polarizing on Forums for a while, love and hate, called by some Royal Yuck. I mentioned I had an unopened tin and was urged to open it and try a bowl. I found it good, not overbearing or yucky in any way. I think I have an unopened tin somewhere in the stacks, but it's lost its mystery, just a pleasant Virginia aromatic with something like plum flavoring. The nicotine is there but not oppressive. I like Nightcap, Durbar, and 965 better, but maybe London Mixture is my favorite of the line.

not really when you consider all the blends you haven't tried yet. I like them but frankly wasn't saddened by their original disappearance and am also happy they're back too. I really don't find them to be any more special then any other solid line up of blends. The tin art is great though so there is always that.

Worth trying as they’re easy to procure. You’re bound to find one you like. IMO nothing special across the range as it exists but decent smokes.

I don’t understand the hatred of Royal Yacht, it’s worth a try. Not my favorite but enjoyable. Try EMP, 965 and Elizabethan for a good introduction to the line.

The polarization in RY is that it tastes like bile.

Is this DeathMetal reborn? ?

You can put your location in your Profile—(please!—because people will forget!) That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc., etc..
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. Just country if you must.

I liked the best their Dark Flake and Ready rubbed, also Three years Matured Virginia and Ye Ole Sign were more or less Ok, perhaps I should not say this because I'm partial to this tradename pipes, but in my humble opinion Dunhill tobaccies are (were )a bit overpriced similarly to their pipes and accessories ,

Dunhill Early Morning Pipe was the first tobacco that "Clicked" for me as a brand new smoker. It was later that I learned that it was the Virginia's that I got that fleeting wonderful flavor from. I've tried it since then and it's been the most "Meh" English ever.

These days, there's little that draws me to the classic Dunhill blends. I have some aged Ye Olde Signe, 221 Baker Street, Apertif, and Nightcap in the cellar that I look forward to smoking, but I certainly won't be buying anymore (not that I could if I wanted to I guess).

The exception recently, for some reason, is 965. It's been the only blend with Latakia that I've been smoking for the last six months or so. After some time in a jar, that blend became so tangy and buttery. Amazing.

There's so much out there, and so many similar blends, that a clear miss of the classic Dunhill (now Peterson) blends wouldn't be missing much.

Nightcap and Early Morning Pipe are the blends that made me a pipe smoker in the late 90s. I still smoke them both regularly, along with Royal Yacht, Elizabethan, and Deluxe Navy Rolls. Durbar is tied for first place in my Balkan list (along with Rajah's Court, btw).
I think Dunhill (Peterson) pipe blends are like their (Dunhill) cigars I sampled many years ago. Fine quality, refined, reliable, flavorful, and in certain cases style benchmarks, but not something that blasts your palate just to get your attention. That's my 1/50 of a dollar anyway. ?

I never understood the hate for Royal Yacht. I first tried it a couple years ago so maybe it was different before 2018. I smoke it regularly, and I find it to be a strong, full-flavored VA that's great after a meal and/or when I have a few drinks on board. It also has the distinction of being the first pipe tobacco blend that almost made me toss my cookies. ?

Dunhill had some good tobaccos and some average tobaccos, but none were bad that I tried. EMP was my first tinned tobacco, and is still a favourite. I really like the STG/Dunhill ribbon cut regardless of blend, it is easy to manage.

The real reason that I like Dunhill though, and a significant factor in their popularity, is the tin art. They are eye catching, easily recognizable, classic designs.

I agree about the tin art but unless it's actually printed on the tin and not a paper label it's also sort of irrelevant to md.
