Yeah if you choose to use the adapter, you can mess around with a dirty adapter every time you clean your pipe :)
Not trying to get confrontational, but if you're in the 'never disassemble the pipe save for a yearly deep cleaning', then yes, even an adapter can be a hassle.

I take my pipes apart after every smoke, so I see no hassle at all in taking out a filter and tossing it and then putting in a new one. Frankly, washing the stem is more of a hassle than swapping a filter.

hi all

so I have taken the plunge and bought my first pipe - it was a toss up between a Butz Choquin Junior Super Calabash Bent Fishtail Pipe and a Savinelli Tortuga 129 Rustic Straight 6mm Fishtail Pipe. Totally unsimilar in looks but I liked them both the same. My choice was the Savinelli, I can't wait it to arrive! puffy
Excellent choice, but with the caveat that I'm a big Savinelli fan. :) Never had a bad one. You'll want to get another pipe soon. To help you out I'd suggest a Rossi, a Sav sub-brand. Quality is good, the manufacturer reliable, & the advantage of lower cost. Rossis are very well thought of.

Yes. You made the classic beginners mistake of only buying one pipe. Having only one pipe is like having only one pair of socks or one tool in your toolbox. You are starting out with amazing tobacco so treat it to a few different pipes.
I had my savinelli arrive yesterday, I love it, but I'm still looking at the butz choquin - there is only one in stock - I think I'm going to buy it, only thing is it has a metal filter, are they advisable? I know nothing about metal filters puffy

My only Sav is a Poker 311 and I love it. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another Sav.

A stinger. You know? I'm a filter lover, but even I would not buy a pipe with a stinger in it.

truly the only thing I like about filters is how easy they make the clean up.

May want to try any of the straight Virginia's in a flake form. Flakes, coins and plugs open up a whole bunch of different options.

I'm not a fan of filters and use adapters.

Have no worries about the first pipes you buying.

As long as it's made functionally good from a well know factory it I will be ok

In the course of your pipe smoking journey you will change taste and habits.

Ahh.

Are they not very good?
In the majority of cases, today You are only seeing these stringers in pipes fabriqueés en France, they'd make draw more restricted yet collect some moisture so to say will guarantee a wetter smoking experience, why they still are putting them at the assembly' line is a mystery to me, can't help asking if Frenchmen prefer gurgling pipes by chance,

It's a lovely looking pipe, but being a beginner I'm getting a wet filter in the savinelli and I don't think I would be able to keep the stinger dry, maybe better to sit tight for a couple of weeks or longer, I know I will see something else I like, probably sooner than later
