Amazing! To my knowledge, those colours indicate very high energies - back in my youth, watching the Aurora in Scotland, green was predominant and you never saw red. The Earth's field has weakened 30% since then...
It's my first time seeing them. I have headed out to a nearby lookout spot on the edge of town during high aurora alerts, only to be disappointed. Not tonight though. People and cars heading to the edge of town at midnight. I managed to find a quiet spot. Saw a few folk out on mountain bikes a a group of young school lads making the most of it. There was a good buzz. Thoroughly enjoyed the light show.

In all likelihood, this will happen the rest of the weekend - the Kp-index hit a maximum 9 at UK airport monitors last night, still at 9 this morning. Exceptional. I envy your first sight of the Northern Lights!
