“ I really feel sorry for people who have tastes that never change. They like the same tobacco day in and day out, the same foods, the same clothes, the same music; meanwhile their wives are aging out of their interests, because they can't stay 18 years old for forever. Then they look like one of those 40+ burnouts that hangs out with the kids in fast food parking lots.”
I’m sorry. I didn’t take YOU as the sort to hang out in fast food parkinglots, ha ha. You do like other tobaccos other than Granger. Right? Seems like I’ve seen you post about others.

I thought I disliked burley but what I hated was crap blends that happened to be burley based. Once I got my hands on quality burley I was pleased.
This has been my experience recently as well. The OTC burley blends were drying out my mouth and giving me some bite, so I avoided burley blends in general. But I took a leap with Haunted Bookshop (from the literary angle, the book leading me to the tobacco), and found that it wasn’t at all like the Half & Half and SWR Aro that had bit me before. So now I’m giving a few more burley blends some time in my bowls, and finding some interesting smokes.

Yes, my tastes have evolved over the past three or four years since taking up this hobby in a more serious manner. Starting off I really did not like English blends and really enjoyed VaPers and straight Virginias. Then I found burly blends to be amazing with morning coffee and that’s usually my morning smoke. However in the past year I’ve started to enjoy those English blends I didn’t care for at first and now I’m looking forward to smoking them more as the temps cool.

Aromatics however, I usually only smoke once in a blue moon to reminisce on my early early days of trying to figure out pipe smoking by smoking a lot of Capt Black and other cheap drugstore aromatics which usually turned me off from the hobby. It’s why I keep a jar of RLP-6 around :)

My preferences in blends go back and fourth.

Me and latakia have an on again off again kind of thing going, all the time.

I'll get stuck on one flavor until I wear myself out on it... Then in a couple weeks I'll come right back.

Certainly have, It took just under 15 yrs but know exactly what I like now and could live with that forever, but I might discover something else.

English flake tobacco like Ennerdale 1792 Flake, English blends, good aros, and Virginia flake, I like a good mix.

For years I really disliked burley blends. In the past I only tolerated them so I could get the nicotine because I worked the night shift at the time. In the past 2 years or so I've learned to appreciate them. I got an oz of haunted bookshop after not having it for 3 years and it was a completely different experience. I will lament the day that I lose my love for latakia blends like a lot of people seem to do.

I've gone through a number of changes. For a while, I smoked Captain Black almost exclusively, as well as Danish Delight. I still have an ancient jar of the latter hiding somewhere. My appreciation for English blends grew to the point that I smoked them almost exclusively for years, Balkan Sobranie, 759, and other well made English and Balkan blends mere my go to.
About 20 years ago I suddenly developed a strong aversion to Latakia. Just the smell of it made me want to hurl. I switched over to Virginias, which required me to relearn my smoking technique, as they are much more demanding. Today, I smoke primarily Virginia blends and their variants, like Va/Pers, etc. I love a good matured red Virginia.
Gradually, I've regained my appreciation for Latakia, though only in condimental amounts and only on the rare occasion. Also, I've become fond of semi-aromatic blends, more complex varieties than vanilla or cherry. Also, I've come to appreciate burley and "codger" blends more.

This is a cool thread.....

Like many of you I started out smoking aromatics but now, I have very little use in them. Give me tongue bite.
My taste have changed substantially and I float back and forth between English and Virginias and Vapers. Right now I am on a Balkan kick..........
