Hi guys, I’m thinking of getting a peterson B10 spigot, the shape just screams “puff me and cozy up with a book!” But I have hit and miss experiences with peterson, some shapes seem to gurgle. Does anybody own a B10 and if so how do they smoke?

I don't know the B10, but I'm a huge fan of the B11 brandy (some call it a volcano) sitter. It is an excellent weight and size, a big Group 4. I have a Shannon and a Killarney ebony, and it is one of my all-time favorites. I don't buy many same-brand-and-shape pipes. B11 comes in various series at different price levels. If you find your B10, you may want to look at the B11 later. It's when you smoke it you learn to love it.

I’ll have to have a look at them, i once owned a brandy shape that was a bjarne and it was beautiful, I got it from a guy called frenchy who sold refurbished pipes.

Damn. Now I can't get the image out of my head of you smoking a B10 while you excavate an ancient puffin burial ground.

Unfortunately they don’t let you smoke on most sites nowadays, health and safety gone insane, they have ya dressed up as big bird wearing hard hats in the middle of a field

I have 3 of them. 1 Arklow and 2 Summertime 2018 and I love them. I think it's one of their nicest shape. They have good room for tobacco, clench great and smoke great.

They don't gurgle. Any pipe might gurgle if the tobacco is too moist. I think that's the main problem of gurgling.

I have a Peterson b10 real amber spigot that I also had an extra stem made for that takes a 9mm filter and I have found it smokes cool & dry with both stems with nary a hint of gurgle. I believe the fact it is a sort of semi system pipe ie it has a small well that collects moisture may be the reason it smokes so dry, I also have a Peterson Newgrange spigot Xl02 which has the same sort of moisture trapping semi system well but as these are the only 2 Petersons I own I couldn't say whether all bent Petersons/different lines have the same 'feature', all I can say for sure is that both of my Petersons smoke great and I would not hesitate to buy another in the future but if you look at some of the threads on here and other forums you will find plenty of people who have had quality control issues with Petersons so it might be a good idea to purchase from a company with a good return policy, maybe I got lucky with my purchases but I have been very pleased with the build and indeed the smoking qualities of the 2 I have purchased.

I know there have been some Peterson quality control issues, but I have about seven Petes, many bought about six/eight years ago, and I have had no problems, no stain in the shanks or bowls, no poor drilling, no bubbly finishes. When Peterson does it right, they make an excellent pipe for my purposes.

I have a Peterson B10 from their 2013 Christmas series. It smokes well, is drilled properly, and had no cosmetic issues. No complaints.

Mso489 I totally agree mate, after reading some of the threads on this & other boards I've got to admit I was a little apprehensive about ordering my first Peterson but (and this is with the caveat of owning only 2) I have been very happy with both of them. The only thing I found was on my Newgrange the airway in the bowl was a bit higher than in my b10 but after reading MANY people's thoughts on the issue some said it was a defect and they would return such a pipe whereas others said some makers drill them a little higher in the bowl on purpose and that is indeed how the pipe should be, I decided to just risk it and smoke the darn thing and see for myself and although I am NO expert I can honestly say I've been very happy with both Petersons, as with many things such as the use of filters, types of tobacco etc. the only certain way to know if you like it or not is to try for yourself.

If you are ordering from the usual online suspects if you look it over closely BEFORE smoking it you would have no problem returning or replacing it.

I finally went to one of our sponsor online retailers to remember what the B10 looked like, and I really like the shape. I like the calabash domed brim to the bowl and the fully bent shape. It's a handsome shape, a calabash without going to a gourd.
