I recently purchased a tin of McClelland's 221b Black Shag to share with my pipe mentor (who is also a huge Holmes fan). I am not too impressed by the blend but my friend likes it. I'm planning to buy a tin to give him next year as a present. Has anyone had experience aging this blend?
From what I read on cellaring, Virginia's take well to it and show some results after 6 months to a year. Seeing as this is a pure Virginia blend I figure it might be more impressive next year. Should I perhaps buy two tins and have one for myself next year as well?

It would be a grand experiment. generally speaking though, if I don't like a blend fresh, then aging normally doesn't sway me . . . at least I have yet to find a blend that I hated fresh but loved aged. Normally I like it fresh and love it aged.

I wouldn't say I hate it. I smoke it and enjoy it. I just find it uninteresting. Dare I say, boring even. Does aging add complexity at all?
