My parents listened to his records and I also became fan. Sad to hear of his passing, and decided to listen to one of his greatest recordings in my opinion at Carnegie Hall in 1959.

I had the same experience. My mother loved Harry Belafonte. She even took me out of school to see him in concert. I remember Miriam Makeba singing The Click Song. This must have been in the late fifties also. Decades later I saw him at a car dealer getting his car repaired. Have to say, I was still a bit star struck.
I was fortunate enough to meet him a number of years ago. He signed my copy of this album, but refused to sign the other because he thought I was going to sell them on eBay because I brought more than one LP with me.
Tremendously talented man who had a short but brilliant period as a recording artist and then spent many decades as civil rights activist. R.I.P.
I think his recording of "Scarlet Ribbons" (1956) was nearly the first song I had a tender emotional reaction to. I was only 7 years old. A lovely memory. RIP.
How much did you get for the one?

It’s actually still in my collection. It’s something of an audiophile staple, great sounding, and great for evaluating new components in a system. A keeper even moreso, that he signed it for me.
