I hope you guys are kidding about the nail holes. Just slip a table knife or anything between lid and bottom and twist it a little till the vacuum releases.

No, not kidding. Twisting a coin/knife/screwdriver can be painful to the point of impossibility with arthritis of the hands.

I recently had a devil of a time with a couple of tins that must have been sucked out by a Hoover on steroids, because breaking that pressure was difficult! I pried at every notch all the way around, bending he tin some too,

when I finally gave it ENOUGH twist...it gasped for air...

I feel your pain, piped. . . I have a bum shoulder. Long ago, I quit trying to muscle open tins. I switched to my handy-dandy Swiss Army Knife, the one with the tooth pic and wine bottle opener. It has a screwdriver blade that works like a charm. You just keep going around the tin, releasing pressure, and voila!

I find a small hatchet makes short work of opening tobacco tins. :)

If it's a tin I want to save I'll use the spoon on my Czech tool or a butter knife. :puffy:

I second portascat's solution--that image almost had me rolling out of bed!
