A lot of times positive reinforcement works better then negative when helping someone quit a vice. It might be more effective to point out the positives of not smoking cigarettes then the doom and gloom on the warnings.
After you quit smoking cigarettes you'll be able to run without feeling fire in your lungs... ETC.
You're wife will appreciate your renewed vigor and virility, so will your girlfriend.
I am mostly joking but am slightly serious.
Sometimes focusing on the gloomy side of health issues discourages people and increases a sense of hopelessness.
Example if you don't lose the weight you'll have a massive heartattack. Well if I am going to have a massive heart attack I might as well enjoy this burger or ten as much as possible, "waiter how much bacon you guys got back there???".
Where as hey you're going to be able to breath while bending down and tying your shoes and your knees will start feeling great can help someone stay the course.
Though if I personally got to make the warnings. Cigarette boxes would say you know you could be smoking a pipe instead or using any other better tobacco product.

I don't disagree. And full disclosure, I am a cigarette smoker and not at all guilty about or shamed of it. My personal feelings is that I am an adult of sound-ish mind, or sound-enough mind to take responsibility to research risks and make determinations for myself what risks I want to take with my own body. That's kind of how I view it for everyone. I don't endorse things, but I don't make judgments either, at best I will say it's for an individual to decide (with anything, not just tobacco products).

That said, I "hate" a lot of the warnings. Many are very patronizing in a way. Like "no duh, who didn't know that, this isn't the 1920s...". The warnings on packages are stupid to me in the sense that they're kind of pointless and likely are very ineffective, if effective at all. But they're not annoying, at least not to me.

They're like the equivalent of those "explicit content" warnings on albums or at the beginning of shows—as in nobody cares and ignores them except maybe grandma if she's not cool af. If I don't see that sticker, I'm not buying the album because I know it's for babies. Likewise if the warning on a show doesn't have LSV, I know it's going to be boring. Thanks for pointing out more prominently where all the good stuff is. 😎😜

I have plywood with a prop 65 warning on it. Everything is bad for you because nothing on this planet makes you immortal. No ambrosia exists. Birth is the leading cause of death and if you happen to have been born you have a 100% chance of dying. I'm told George Burns smoked 8 to 10 cigars a day and lived to a hundred. Jean Nicot the guy who named nicotine after lived to his mid 70s in the late 1500s when people didn't live past 50 or 60. A close friend died at 45 from stage 4 pancreatic cancer never smoked and was strong as an ox. I believe the date of one's death is set in stone but the method is not. One way or other one won't live past that date. Might as well enjoy life to the fullest. Life should come with a warning: Doesn't last forever.

Wait…I was told if I didn’t smoke, drink or chase women I would live forever. Are you saying I was lied to? Damn I missed a lot. I better get busy to make up time.
You weren't lied to. But you did do all those things. And it's too late now to change. So you may as well keep chasing women with a whiskey in hand and pipe in your teeth.

There has been some research indicating that the effects of extreme anti smoking ads are actually the opposite of what is intended. Often it causes a stress response which makes an addict more likely to crave a smoke to calm down.

Here's one article about it.

The Do-Gooders seem to think publishing such crap gives them the moral high ground.
They do. The decision to smoke is a selfish one of absolutely no benefit to anyone other than, tax spenders, share-holders and retailers. We smoke because we like to smoke, simple but, the antis are on the right side of the argument. We are on the wrong side socially and scientifically. Nothing we can do or say to makes our choice wise or healthy (Drag out the stale and trite justifications many of you cling to). For those of us who smoke, enjoy and quit wasting emotion on the things which won't change and, really, don't matter. You are wasting time which could be spent in "deep contemplation" while enjoying a bowl or stick.

Messages are really trashy and dumb e. g.:

So really then is the issue with tossing cig butts in the water or smoking? Why not just dispose of the butts correctly? And why not just tell your child "no"? That cig could easily be a glass of wine or a beer. Lots of things adults do and eat that children can't do or eat.

How nice of her to light that for him!
You're bad lol. All jokes aside, when I was that age my mother smoked around me so much that I got severe ear aches and infections. I remember going to the doctor several times about it before smoking was pinpointed as the cause. She stopped doing it around me and it stopped bothering my ears. To this day I don't like cigarettes, but you smoke whatever you like, as long as it doesn't become someone else's problem.

Smoking in places like restaurants though should be up to the owner, not the lawmakers. If you don't want to eat in a restaurant with people smoking cigarettes... well... don't eat in a restaurant with people smoking cigarettes. Seems pretty easy to me, and that's coming from someone who has had medical issues from secondhand smoke.

My mother... well, she just didn't know I guess. You can blame people like her for the silly labels. I don't smoke my pipe indoors with my kids around. It's pretty rare but if they are with me outside while I'm smoking I make sure they are upwind. Thanks to my mom I don't need a warning label for that :P

These declaimers are legally bound and have to be worded in legal verbiage. Just don't read them. There is a lot of shit I don't read.

This title reminds me of those immortal words from Neil Peart "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice", or a little bit pregnant, can you be half serious and half joking, or is one just covering up for the other? Riddle me that, Batman.

Here parents are no longer parents to their children, they are friends. Almost more so the kids are princesses and princes and badly they rule their parents, not the other way round.

That assumed, the foto on the box fits well into the whole picture.

I will say this though, I am all for those dumb and ineffective warnings if it makes the bored, upper-middle-class housewives happy and shuts them up, assuming the alternative is an outright ban of tobacco altogether. Seems like an easy compromise.
