at times it gets on a minty/geranium leaf nuance
I popped a tin each of 5-year old Old Gowrie and HOTW last week and transferred them into Mylar along with the leftovers from two other tins that had been aging in glass jars for the same period of time. The fresh tins has an unmistakable minty smell along with a lot of astringency. (I commented on it in another thread.) I haven't smoked any of it yet. I mixed the "fresh" tobacco with the jar-aged stuff and might let it sit for another 5 years in Mylar. 🤷‍♂️ The jarred tobacco was much darker in colour and had none of that minty smell to it; just dark fruit/bread/etc.

[I also prefer Old Gowrie to HOTW, but they are very similar.]

I recently opened a tin of HOTW from 2009, I was also surprised that there is no flavoring in it as the tin note is so sweet and fruity.

Also, I have to say the tin of Rattray's is pretty well sealed comparing with the C&D, the tin is rock solid and the tobacco inside that 2009 tin is still so moist and fresh, I would guess its a fresh tin if not the XYZ Direct Ltd distribution label.

Are you referring to the 100g tins? Do
Those seem to hold up with time?

I used to smoke a lot of Rattray's before they switched to K&K. Those guys have a serious reputation for changing ingredients in a blend.
