Haddo's Delight

I tried it last night for the first time. I had herd of it, but didn’t know much past it existed. We played cards last night and my buddy brought it along. Wow it’s horrible. He loves it,....not me. It’s a aromatic 100% to me. Very strong plum, coca like smell. Taste was Not like it smelled ,but fruity. I could taste the topping that was really it. Tasted no tobacco flavors at all, just topping. Glad I didn’t blind buy it.

I think you were tasting the Perique. It's very Perique forward. I really like it now,but back in 2001 when I first smoked it,I just didn't get the flavors going on,and it kicked my butt strength wise,also.

It is very unique. A lot of people don’t like that one, but I love it. And no ass crack licking here, @ashdigger ! ?
It does have a booze topping, but mostly I like the Perique in that one. It’s very “plummy,” kind of like it is in Elizabethan Match.

I’ve had Haddo’s fresh and it wasn’t that bad. I splurged on a ten year old tin and the results are above.

Tobacco is like Whisky is like Wine. If you like it. Don’t care what I think. Do your thing.

Yeah - From what I've read, it's a love/hate blend - there's little middle ground here. I have come to appreciate Haddo's. The tin note is a little "ass cracky" but I enjoy the myriad of flavors once its lit. One man's ass crack is another man's plummy goodness!

That was the Perique, it has very little rum in it.

I did not like it in the beginning.

Scratch that, I hated it.

Let it sit in the tin, the topping evaporated significantly, and it's a completely different blend.

I prefer plummy and funky perique to to the horseradish spice perique found in Haddos, but after the aforementioned offgassing I can enjoy it.

However, I will not be buying anymore. I find it really only clicks for me in a big bowl after at least the first third has been smoked.

If I'm smoking a big bowl, I have other tobaccos I vastly prefer.

If you can't tell, I think the topping is terrible.

Wow I did not expect the results. I thought everyone would hate it as well. You all need to go to a dentist and get your mouth checked. I believe you have something wrong with your taste buds. I told Mime, my card buddy who brought it, it sucked and it was the Porsche pipe he so loves, making any blend magic. He laughed!

That one's been forum popular for years. I've had ten pounds of it in th closet for a few years now. The very heavy Perique is great.

it's a good blend.. and I'm not one to sugarcoat or defend C&D or GLP.
I think you are tasting the perique it's really smoky and heavy in that one. If you let it get bone dry it's a lot better.

Haddo's is one of my favorite blends. I can see where it can be polarizing as it's a pretty unique blend. I prefer it well aged, as fresh it kind of chafes my throat. With some years on it the sharp corners smooth out. It's one of the very few blends for which I would happily pay a premium amount for an old tin. But with recent disappointments where the tins had corroded, i've given up on buying any old stock.

I have a few pounds of it cellared in jars and that will do just fine.
