I bought my first pouch (white one?) a couple weeks ago just to give it a try. I found it to be quite alright and the folks around me as I walked the streets of Nashville all commented on how nice it smelled. Not sure if it will become a regular in my rotation but I will no doubt enjoy the rest of this pouch. :puffy:

CB Dark is probably the best of the CB lot, it's very similar to Lane BCA.
Funny you should say that. I just discovered BCA a couple of weeks ago and it will probably replace CB Dark in my rotation.

It's been a long, long time since I smoked any CB ... early 90's.
However, for you fans, P&C has it on special all month long:

My one pouch of CB gold quite a few years ago got dried out in a hot tent/open pouch scenario and smoked horribly, I never went back for more even though it was not the captains fault, i think i also stumbled across latakia at the time.

It is all I smoked for about 20 years

I did not realize what this was all about. For an aeromatic, it ain't too bad.

When I first started pipe smoking, I chose Captain Black Gold. It seemed to taste good, unaccustomed as I was to the good stuff. But I got terrible tongue bite and wondered, do all pipe smokers go through this? Do they get used to it? Then I joined the forum and discuvered that certain tobacco, primarily aeros, will bite, and Captain Black bite like a rabid rattlesnake. Since then I've found more forgiving tobaccos; my current favorite is 5100 Red Cake, although I get tins of several other blends, including some aeros. But with the exeption of something like Carter Hall, I'll never trust an OTC tobacco again.

Cobguy,
It sure is funny how those specials work. The normal price for 16oz of bulk was $2.00 per ounce. Now with the special running, it got upped to $2.25, then take your discount.
Amazing how some companies operate, and most customers are completely oblivious.

Good old Captain Monochromatic! They find pouches of the stuff in ancient Egyptian tombs and its still fresh!
Well, Simon, I have a story on that topic. I met this lady in university smoking a pipe, about 25 years ago. I asked her what she was smoking and she said Captain Black White. Then she told me she hadn't smoked a pipe for 5 or 6 years until she found this opened pouch under one of the cushions on her sofa. She said the tobacco was still smokeable.
(Sparing any elaboration about the 5 - 6 years part under the sofa cushion, for obvious hygienic considerations) I still grabbed the pouch and checked the tobacco out. It wasn't moist; but it wasn't even dry.
No, I did not go on a date with this lady.

Yeah ... I've noticed that before.
Same with the "buy one, get one" offers ... usually up the starting price.

For years I smoked Capt Black in all of their varieties, Amphora, some other names that I just can't remember. This was in the late 1970's.
That's all I knew and i can clearly remember that no one complained about that 'awful stink'.
Now that I'm smoking the 'good stuff', complaints, complaints, complaints...
I found a pouch of some drug store aromatic in my cellar that must have been there for years, and when opening it up, sure enough, it was ready to smoke.
No, I did not smoke it.

Th Captain is not very remarkable. Smells great, tastes like steamy sugar, not much else.i tend to enjoy it when walking the dog, driving between errands and what not. Mostly when I don't want to pay to much attention to the smoke.

I used to smoke Captain Black white almost exclusively for years. I absolutely loved it. A year ago I picked up a pouch to see how I would respond after a separation of 15 years. It tasted like chemicals and I absolutely hated it. Funny how tastes change.

I got a pouch of CB white from someone before, on it's own I wasn't too crazy about it, but it was free, but I found mixing it with McClellend's Fragrant Matured cake it was a really good smoke. I think mixing it with PS LTF would probably have similar results.
