No Spoilers, I read his story several years ago as he is the only conscientious objector to get the Medal of Honor. The movie is very true to his life, shows war at its ugliest and saddened me quite a bit. I rarely go in town because of the rude people, which we had at the 12:30 Flick. This mid 30s guy shows up with a12 yr old, not a movie for that kid. During the previews pictures of rude people with cells asking them to turn them org. I always sit in the back with no one behind me. I made a head count and approximately 20 people were there. Previews start and rude man with 12 yr old kid turns his phone on blinding me as I was at a steep angle behind him. I waited, waited, phone still on, I stand up and over the preview voices I Yell, Turn that damn phone off or I"ll go down there and jam it where the sun don't shine. He turns off the phone and we proceed to watch the movie. He left that kid by himself 5 to 6 times, Strange. The movie is Bloody, as war is, part love story, well acted Vince Vaughn does a damn good job in it, Doss played by Andrew Garfield is excellent in it.Memories came back during the Battle scenes, I silently cried, I will not sleep tonight, wife did not want me to go as she knows how it affects me. I leave you with this, these Millioaire Athletics should be hog tiedand made to watch what 18 and 19 yr old Men did so they could play a child's game and live in Freedom.

Two things. 1. THANK you for your service Brad. 2. Good review.
In the western US we have Galaxy Theatres. ....before the movie a theatre employee stands in front of the audience and tells them "all electronics have to be off. Turn them on and you'll escorted out with no refund"
As for the douche with the phone and kid, there's someone who believes in the power of a participation ribbon. :crying:

Brad,
Excellent review. I had a similar response to Lone Survivor. I had read the book and seeing that story play out on screen messed me up for a couple days.
We love ya and you know you have a wonderful family support system for times like that.

I want to add my thanks for your service. God bless you and yours. My dad was a combat veteran and I lived through the effects that brought upon him and his family until the day he passed. (RIP, Dad)
So true about the lack of movie theater etiquette. The last movie I saw in public was Shiller's List. The lack of respect and dignity the people were showing in that theater turned me off to ever going to a theater again. I guess things have not gotten better over the years.
Thanks for your review. I'll see it when i can check it out from the library in a year or two.

Brad-

Many, many thanks for your service. I never served, my Grandad did, in WWII. He bore the scars, which were deep, and I never understood as a kid...... he didn't like fireworks, firecrackers, sudden movements..... I didn't understand as a kid, but Brother--- Its clear now........ God BLESS our Veterans!!!!!!..............

Rock solid review, my friend, although I'm truly sorry this film dredged up so many tough memories for you.
I'm looking forward to this film for two reasons: I'm an unabashed Mel Gibson fan - admired his presence 37 years ago in "Mad Max" but was sold on his acting skills a few later in "Gallipoli" - and I'm an even bigger fan of CMOH awardee, man of faith and true patriot, Desmond Doss.
I wish we all could live our lives with Doss' astonishing level of humility.
Thank you as well, Bradley, for teaching one small group of movie viewers a lesson in courtesy. I haven't been to a walk-in theater since DeNiro's "The Good Shepherd" ten years ago for the reasons you cited. But, damn, I miss the big screen.

P.S. Ash, I'd patronize the Galaxy chain in a heartbeat.

I have not seen it, but read his story. Not everyone is cut out for killing. However, he was able to a job regardless of the circumstances. He was a hero, no doubt.
