H&H 10 To Midnight, Opinions

I just got a 2oz. sample of "10 To Midnight" in today, and I'm nearly done with my first bowl of it. All I can say is wow! This is the first cake/flake/plug or anything besides ribbon or shag cut tobacco that I can truly say I really enjoy! It's a cake, but not like a C&D cake (which looks like a brownie or brick), these are more like a long, thick flake. I found it to be at the perfect moisture level right out of the bag for smoking. It took to the match very well on the charring and true lights, and so far, no relights! The flavor profile is very Lat forward, but not overpowering. It's very smooth, with a little spice on the tongue. Lots of smoke to satisfy the eye, and zero bite!
This is further proof to me that Russ O is a genius! I'll definitely be ordering more of this one!

Anyone else tried this one?

Yes and loved it.
It does not seem to age too well though. It gets much harder and sticky after about a year in a jar.

Good to know, Mr.E! I think I'll still order a pound or so of it come January. I'll just have to take my chances on cellaring it!

By the way, only one relight during the first bowl! I'm very pleased with this blend.

I've been sitting on a sealed 8oz tin of this one for a good part of a year now. Might be time to crack it open and start enjoying it soon.

This is a tobacco I started cellaring a year ago because I enjoy it so much. But, I'm very disturbed after reading Mrenglish's following post.

It does not seem to age too well though. It gets much harder and sticky after about a year in a jar.

10 to Midnight is a great Lat forward blend and, according to my spreadsheet, I've got 2.5 lbs. squirreled away.
That might have to change damned quick.

Yeah, it concerns me as well. I'd really like to cellar some of this, but I might need to be cautious about how much I put back. I don't know if I'd use a pound of it in a year or not, as I have quite a few blends in rotation, but I'd like to have at least that much.

I have been smoking some from an aged jar. Love the presentation in the slight crumbly thick "flakes". More savory than sweet, and very smoky. A bit tricky to pack when dry, suppose because this had some age to it.

The 10 to Midnight still had a most excellent taste after a year. I had to use my plug knife to prep the flakes as they had stuck together, kinda fused into plug. They have a few blends they do not recommend vacuum sealing in mylar bags for the sticky-ness and 10 to Midnight was one of them.
It is still definitely smokeable with age and quite good. Just be prepared to treat it as more of a sticky plug. The loose stuff in the jar was still loose, it was just the flakes I did not break up that fused.

Yeah, I smoked this and enjoyed it. I tried this and Larry's Blend at the same time. I liked Larry's more, and that has become a staple.
