Hello, I recently picked up a Gustave A. Fischer Receipt dated Dec 11, 1915 Buffalo NY. The listed address is 13 East Genesee Street. It appears to be from a purchase for 1 Amb (amber pipe?) for 45 (Dollars?) which I would think would be a lot of money back then, with a 5 (dollar?) postage charge, (not sure). Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge or expertise in this area. Also I recently picked up a Fischer / Buffalo NY pipe display stand with Fischer pipes.
Thanks

A photo would be well received!
Once your photos are on a photo hosting site (such as Imgur.com; Photobucket; Postimage; Dropbox, etc.), or on virtually any site, select the full image, then Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) on the image itself, then choose copy image location. Now paste that URL (the full web address, which should end in .jpg) into the IMG box in the reply window of the thread you're posting to.
The site's album is also a good choice.

Here is a link to the pipes and pipe rack. It seems the rack was home made. There is no Fischer stamps or indication that it was made by Fischer besides the brass letters spelling out "FICSHER PIPES" on the front. But who knows it may be a Fischer rack. 7 of the pipes came with the rack including one supreme and the silver band rustication on the left. The other 3 pipes i picked up from two different venders, one of the 3 is also a supreme and the restored pipe has the Fischer logo stamped on the top of the shank and imported Briar along the side of the shank. I'll post individual shots of the 10 Fischer pipes over the weekend.

The last link is the 1915 Fischer bill from my first post.
Thanks

Thanks dmcmtk & beefeater33 for the links, what a great article by Ben Rapaport! I was born and raised in Buffalo NY and was my catalyst to picking these up and add them to my pipe collection. I never knew of Fischer pipes until I stumbled on them a week ago. I can offer a high-rez scan of the Bill for the archives if needed. Just let me know.

Gives us $1,221.13 as the value today of $50 in 1915.
Since $0.50 would be $12.21, it seems likely that these numbers indicate dollars and not cents.

What a cool find! But I doubt you're seeing the price of a single pipe priced in dollars. Could be for dozen or more pipes. Or for a large quantity of amber stems.

More likely still, given that the amounts are to the right of the line, they represent 45 cents for the item and a nickel for postage

Congrats, they're good pipes. Had a number of them and have some number still here, mostly dirty. This Cutty is a Ramsgate which should be the lowest grade.
