Grow Your Own Tobacco

Anyone been growing their own tobacco? Maybe everyone already knows all this stuff, but I found the below site to be quite interesting. I especially enjoyed the article on how to build a kiln. Anyone have experience doing this?

I tried last year but moved my plants too soon and they all bolted. I have 72 germinating right now including Burley, virginias, and cuban plants. Phil you should try. Start them in a tray and when they take off, with all that animal shit you have access to, we might be looking at world record plants.

OK OK I stole it to start with.
From what Ive read and heard insects and animals actually are quite attracted to tobacco plants. I figured they'd shy away since nicotine makes an effective insecticide.
But then again look at us.
All enthused users but if we ingested too much it would kill us....some say it will in the end regardless.
Something interesting there about enjoyment vs. danger. Almost like an extreme or adventure sport.
Hey maybe we can get smoking in the Olympics. They have every thing else now.
Would have to be a summer games event though because all the "athletes" would be forced to smoke outside.

I have three 72 pellet flats that have just germinated. One is all samsun , one is a Canadian Virginia I got from eBay and the third is about half and half Scherazi and burley. Should be a fun Summer. I still have one more flat of Virginia to get planted.

Taxes! We don't need no more stinkin' taxes!

Nice unclearthur, you must have alot more room than I. I have one 72 pellet flat germinated, a bunch of happy babies. I have 24 bright virgina plants, 24 tennessee burley, the rest are a mix of samsun, and other burleys. Hope yours take off well. I'll keep a post of how mine are doing.

Thanks Sapo. This is going to be a learning experience for sure. I have a nice secluded rural home with lots of room to play with growing tobacco. I still need to get one more flat for Virginia plants. Them I am all set.

I just bought 30 pounds of various and cured leaf tobacco from a Kentucky

farmer who's looking for more of the 2009 crop which has been called a "vintage"

year in quantity and quality. I've got a pipe smoker friend with a farm and here's a website where you can not only buy seeds, but also already started plants.

Never grown tobacco. But other plants for smoking are always tough to get past that inch high cute little seedling stage.
What's your theory on the clear film? Whatt does it do?
I've found peat pots are killers. I don't use 'em. And light light and more light.
I'm curious do tobacco plants require any special grow lighting before they are transplanted outdoors?
