Welcome to the party. Emergency exits can be found directly behind you and to either side. The Captain Kevin has just lit the smoking light, please enjoy your journey

Welcome dragonslayer. I was also a big cigar guy who came back to my pipes and have been enjoying them much more than I did before. This place has a lot to do with that. Some great info to be had here and of course the enabling is great fun.

Thanks all! Seems like a great forum with everyone kicked back typing away enjoying a great bowl.

I spent the night browsing the forum and of course smoking, taking in all the information I could find. With my 20 years of cigar smoking, easily trying 150+ brands from all over the world. People always ask me what is my favorite, and the answer is always the same.
“I’ve smoked a $1.50 stick and a $30.00 stick but it all comes down to what you like balanced out against price. As you go through and try them you’ll find a wrapper, filler and binder combination that you like. For me it’s Cameroon wrapper with Dominican F/B, and between the Rocky Patel 6-10 year and the Arturo Fuente Hemingway. I have to go with the Hemingway Signature as best in price and flavor.”
That all being said, you can tell I’m a bit long winded at times an occupational habit. I promise to keep further posts shorter, or at least try. I’d like some suggestions on what is out there worth trying. Here is a list so far:

McClelland’s 221b Arcadia.

Sutliff Tabac Noir

Stanwell Melange

Sutliff Moulin Rouge

McClelland Frog/Town

Dunhill Night Cap

Peter Stokkebye PS47 Dansk Black

Peter Stokkebye PS27 Pistachio

Peter Stokkebye PS306 English Oriental Supreme
I always start with Frog on the Town, and then bounce around the bulks during the day with one of the more expensive tins as a treat, and then of course Nightcap for the finish.

Reading through last night, these seemed to be favorites. So of course I ordered them :)

8oz Bulk - McClelland 2015 St James flake

2oz Bulk - Lane 1-Q

2oz Bulk - Samuel Gawith Best Brown flake
So I’m up for suggestions on the “You’ve got to try this…”

Welcome dragonslayer. That's a good start I'd say. I am currently enjoying 1792 flake, which packs a big nic kick, so I usually temper it with an aro. My fav aro to mix so far is Wilke's rumcake. This is a great forum and a great help for pipe smokers, old and new.

It's been about 15 years sinceI quitesmoking anything;and more like 30 since my last pipe. A young friend of mine who is interested in trying it out got me interested again. I have some fond memories of relaxing with a good smelling and a good tasting smoke. I think I will just stick with it this time.

You all sound like the kind of people I can identify with and talk things over with when it comes to this hobby. Pick another forum and I can talk about other things as well.

It's good you let me in where it's warm and friendly.

Thanks

dragon, one must have for me is Escudo, it is a Virginia/Perique flake that really got me into the pipe back when I started and it is still a favorite today. One of my new favorites is Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired, it is another flake that has a very unique taste.
