My name is Pavel and I have been smoking pipes for a few years now. I enjoy Balkan/Oriental, VaPer, VaBur, and Straight Virginia blends. Really have a knack for stronger Gawith Hoggarth blends (Dark Flake Aromatic, Dark Bird's Eye, Happy Bogie, etc.) and generally fuller, more robust and higher in nicotine blends. I have recently become very interested in home tobacco blending and want to try my hand at that, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings from France.

It would help if you added your location to your profile...even the country. This is a worldwide forum and different tobaccos are more easily obtained in different regions. I wish everyone would at least add a region or continent. I get if they dont want privacy but its a big world.

I've just added it, thank you. It's Russia. Unfortunately, many pipe tobaccos are not available here anymore. That includes everything made by Gawith Hoggarth, DTM, and STG (+ Mac Baren). Most things blended by Kopp and Cornell & Diehl are available, though, which is great. They are double the actual price but I guess we have to make do with what we have.

I enjoy the HU blends.
Directors cut
Tuarekh which is similar to glp quiet nights
Makhuwa burley blend
Louisiana broken flake

There is always Ratrays. Not completely stellar but good

Dan pipe St Bernard flake, salty dogs plug,

Mac HH Latakia flake

Some of those may or may not be too light for you but I think for a vaper director’s cut is pretty meaty. It has some burley in it too. You can always read jiminks reviews on tobacco reviews to get a helpful snapshot.

I imagine you have smoked a number of these but I thought Id toss them out anyway

The location is helpful because otherwise you would get a zillion of suggestions of things not even found in the EU. Here in the EU there are only a handful of C&D blends.

Ive no idea about what you can import in Russia or their laws. If you know it might help to give us a quick idea of where you can reasonably source tobacco.

It's impossible to order tobacco from other countries directly, but there are people who can *bring* any blends available online in the US, although often at very high prices (a 57g tin of C&D would cost you around $32). This way, I ordered some HU tins from the US (at $39 per tin) as they are also unavailable here. I've ordered Edward G, Zulu, and Louisiana Broken. Can't wait to try them!
I've also ordered L.J. Peretti's Ampersand Flake and some 1 oz bags of their English and Balkan blends as those are highly praised.
