As you might know the Dutch are famous for cheese, especially Gouda (Gouda is also a city) cheese. This is actually a scene from the Gouda cheesemarket, for centuries cheese was brought to this market by farmers and sold. The cheese was brought from the farmers carriages onto the market and from the market to the one who bought the cheese by two dudes carrying it this way. A few times a year the cheese market is reeannected the traditional way. Every wheel of cheese is about 15kgs/30 pounds and these dudes actually run across the market.
Thanks for the background! I love learning historical info!

Welcome from Florida. Time to jump into the deep end of the pool.

First begin your research of how to smoke flake to tobacco. I would go for the cube cut then try your hand at fold and stuff.
Here are a few blends that are readily available and are very tasty.
Capstan Blue Flake
Peterson Flake
Peterson Navy Rolls
Peterson Irish Flake
Savinelli Doblone d'Oro
Mac Baren Old Dark Fired
Peterson University Flake

Once you have mastered how to smoke and enjoy these blends then the whole world of tobacco is yours to explore. Patience is the key, there is large learning curve to the art of pipe smoking. Good luck.

Howdy Pipers!
New member coming to you from Oregon/Washington (I go back and forth). Just recently picked up pipe smoking and am enjoying it immensely and learning a lot. I started off with a cheap no-name pipe and some generic brick and morter aromatic blends and have not been progressing into Virginia, English, and Burley blends. Picked up a couple of Savinellis but really want to diversify my pipe collection as well as my tobacco collection. I'm still learning what I like to smoke so recommendations are always welcome. So far I'm pretty happy with Mac Baren Virginia No. 1 but I have more blends on the way!
Looking forward to engaging with the community -

cute dog by the way. As far as finding what you like, I say why worry about it. You'll find what you like one way or the other. More important is enjoying what you can and getting your techniques down is probably going to do more for your enjoyment then finding the holy grail blends. But that's just like my opinion man.

Welcome from Central Oregon. Where did you pick you pipes at (online/local shop)?
A little bit of both. I'm actually on the Washington side these days so my online tobacco options are limited. But there are a couple brick and mortars around that have a decent (albeit expensive) supply of pipes, tins, and bulk.

Would you mind mentioning some of the better shops on the WA side of the river? I find myself over the boarder from time to time and like to support local BM's when I am in a town.

I've been to Paul's Cigars (Vancouver and Portland) and 82nd Avenue Tobacco & Pipe (Portland)

Welcome! I believe Portland still has a pipe club that meets on the 3rd Sunday at 2pm at the Rose & Thistle in the NE part of town. Check online to verify, they used to have a website.

@jndyer Washington has some Indian Reservations where I believe you can buy tobacco cheaply. Lil' Brown Smoke Shack on the Yakama Reservation is one I've heard of, if it's close to you:
