Hi everybody, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and currently been living in Australia for 2 years.
I smoked pipe for a short time in Buenos Aires when I was much younger (24 years old approx) and now I'm keen to come back to this beautiful hobby.
I have all my pipes and tools in my country, so I'll have the pleasure to buy myself a new pipe and new blends :);)
I'm dismayed by the tobacco laws in here, so any tips on best place to buy pipes or tobaccos from Australia will be greatly appreciated (you can PM me if that's better).
Thank you for reading and wish me luck on my new pipe journey
Welcome from another Sydneysider.
Whereabouts in Sydney are you ?
(For those of you NOT familiar with the place, Sydney is a large sprawling place)

The bad news is there is NO ”BEST” place in Sydney or Australia to buy pipes or pipe tobacco.
Most tobacconists are little more than cigarette or vape peddlers.
Your best bet is Melbourne, but be prepared to pay.

ALL pipe tobacco is heavily taxed - you will be paying AUD$145 - 155 for a 50gm/2oz tin
Tobacco imports are often confiscated by Oz Customs and destroyed unless you have a valid Customs Permit to Import Tobacco for Personal Use.

Pipes are NOT taxed.
I buy mine online, either from one of the many sponsors or off EBay.
Just be aware that buying pipes off EBay, Etsy or Amazon can be a crapshoot unless you know what to look for.

Please feel welcome to pm me if you need hints on where to source tobacco or pipes

Welcome to this great website, it’s a treasure-trove of pipe smoking information and there are a good number of Antipodean pipers here. I used to live in Sydney myself; the current costs for tobacco there are ridiculous. If you can get a cheap flight, it would probably be cheaper to fly to Fiji, buy a couple of tins in the duty-free shop, smoke it there, and fly back than to buy the same couple of tins in Australia. It’s astounding really. But you can still read about the great tobacco blends here for free. Good luck to you!
You will want to smoke that tobacco while you are in Fiji. ;)

You are allowed to import 25gm (or part of) tax free into Oz.
Anything over the 25gm limit is subject to the exorbitant Oz tobacco excise

Hi OzPiper, I live in Beaconsfield, which is a not very famous suburb near the more well-known Alexandria.
It's crazy how high taxes we put up with in here but I guess no place on Earth is perfect event though Oz is really close to that 😊
I'll PM you if you don't mind, happy Australia Day!

I'm hoping you can point him in the right direction for a decent pipe in Sydney @OzPiper without having to order online.

Edit: Shit yeah, Happy Australia Day.
Why am I still sober?
Yes, I sent him a rather lengthy email.
Hope he didn’t fall asleep halfway through it ;)

And for all you fellow Aussies on the Forums
A Very Very Happy Australia Day
