Welcome from Slidell.Hello all,
Really excited to be part of this very interesting forum. I'm learning so much from you all!
I've been involved with tobacco on and off for about 30 years, having grown up around it in Kentucky. I started socially with cigars, and then moved to pipes for several months before switching to dip for many years. I quit the dip for about a decade then found myself with a very stressful job and needed an outlet--the cigars came back. Then, I ran across some estate pipes (I only know that term because of this forum) in a gift shop in Natchitoches a couple months ago and a seed was planted. I didn't realize it was a Virginia seed and here we are.
I do have a local B&M tobacco store from which I tried out a cheap briar and even cheaper Cavendish that thoroughly fried my tongue. (Super Value my ass.) I just picked up an MM Country Gentleman and have now broken it in with some samples I picked up at SPC (thanks for the recommendation from so many). So far my favorite is C&D Habana Daydream, which is the best smoke of any form I've ever had right out of the little baggie. I'm still trying other things but at the moment this will be my daily.
Anyway, I now live in SE Louisiana, about 20 miles east of where all the Perique in the world is evidently grown. The weather here, plus my back patio enclosed on 3 sides, plus my current job with minimum demands, leaves me with time to enjoy a bowl every few hours year round, much to my wife's chagrin.
I thank each of you for sharing so much knowledge in such a friendly and funny way. I look forward to learning more about this hobby and all of you.

Do experienced smokers like it?That stuff (Super Value) isn't great for new smokers.
Thank you for the tips! I’ll look into those! Two of my favorites are cigar leaf blends. Key Largo is probably my favorite blends for special occasions. And I also find the Bankers by James Fox to be an incredible cigar leaf blend. Side note have had random strangers tell me that both smell wonderful.
more great info! I’ll have to give it a try! I look forward to enjoying a bowl at the end of the day around the campfire too.Hiking is awesome too by the way and pipes are great on hikes.
Billy Budd…. I’ve seen that around. If it’s half as good as HD I’m sure I’ll love it. It just made the list! Thanks!I still can't decide whether I prefer Habana Daydream or Billy Budd: both are very pleasant, both are very enjoyable. I haven't tried Key Largo yet, but that will be soon.
I lived in NJ near Morristown for a few years before I met my wife. I loved it there, New Yorkers give it a bad rap that is almost totally undeserved.Hello and welcome from New Jersey.
I'm in Covington, and a member of the NOLA club, join us if you are in the area and welcome to the forum!Welcome from Slidell.
If you are 30 miles east of St. James Parish, then you are close enough to join the New Orleans Pipe Club which normally meets on the 4th Thursday of each month (barring blizzards, hurricanes and Mardi Gras parades). Our next meeting will be on Feb. 20th at Mayan Imports on 18th Street in Metairie. We also have a Facebook group page you are welcome to join. We usually have 10 to 12 pipe smokers at the meeting.
There is also a Baton Rouge pipe club which just had the January meeting. They are a new club that just formed a few months ago.
