Hi everyone,

I've visited these forums occasionally for years, long enough to have learned to trust the opinions of a few posters. I guess I've been out of the loop for a while, though, because I just learned Nat Sherman closed down. I like to explore different tobaccos, but I always come back to Nat Sherman 536. Since it's no longer available, I figured I needed to open an account so I can start asking people for their recommendations for a 536 substitute.

the rumor is it's coming back under a different label (Metropolitan). Though seems hard to find. Though all hope is not lost. By the way that's a great blend.

I know Nat Sherman was selling their pipe tobacco under the Metropolitan brand for a while. Not sure why, I think it had something to do with some state or federal regulations. I read that some guy named Herklots, apparently big in the premium cigar world, bought the Nat Sherman tobacco rights (minus the Nat Sherman name, perhaps). Here's hoping he brings back the pipe tobacco and not just the cigars. In the meantime, I hope to find a substitute. I'm smoking Early Morning Pipe as I type. It's a good blend, but it lacks that subtle sweetness that 536 has.

Welcome!

How long in Philly?

You can put your location in your Profile—(please!—because people will forget!) That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc., etc..
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. Just country if you must.

Welcome aboard from central N.C. I've liked Philly when I was there on business, even worked in a visit to the Mint. Have you been around long enough to remember the old Bookbinder seafood restaurant? It's gone now, I think, but it was a good one. Nat Sherman 536 was among the most refined English blends I've encountered, and had a nice condimental use of burley. I like various English and burley blends of various kinds, but I've not encountered anything quite like 536.
