Hello, been smoking pipe for less than a month now. Used to be a hookah smoker but work conditions and inadequate local supplier made it impossible. Now I discovered that pipes are better in almost every way.
My local tobacconist supply a good selection of MM corn cob so thought I'd give it a try. So now here I am.
Apart from fighting this terrible urge to collect nice looking pipes...I'm also at loss at how to choose my tobacco.
I find Stanwell Melange to be very delicious, but others like Macbaren Vanilla Cream and Holger Danske Mango and Vanilla taste nothing at all despite the sweet fruity smell. Even attempted to smoke two pipes at same time to compare the taste...which is something I would never repeat. Had to lie down from nicotine sickness.
I could only taste the delicous flavour from Stanwell Melange which means there must be something in it that blend that is palatable to my tongue. Though I am clueless, absolute beginner at smoking...
Could any of the seniors here advice me on how to choose a tobacco suitable for me? I would forever be grateful for each delicious puff I enjoy...

Less than a month, and you’ve tried all of the tobaccos that I have suggested on a thread today. That’s quite a few tins you must have open. Put the ones you can’t taste in jars, and come back to them latter in your smoking experience. Aromatic flakes are very subtle in flavor. We all have to develop a palate for these types of tobaccos. You might want to try some Virginias to develop a taste for what the predominant tobacco is in those blends. They may taste different to you after you’ve explored the world of flue cured.
Do you have a tobacconist in Malaysia that carries a selection of MacBarens and Solani?

Yup...I'm the lucky few who could smoke all day long at my workplace so got plenty of time to smoke. Though I'm a very slow smoker. Took me 2-4 hours to finish a bowl in a medium size pipe and usually a have between 2-3 bowl a day. Sometimes when I'm too busy to light my pipe I'll suck the air that passes through the tobacco. But now I'm trying to limit myself to 1 bowl per day or else I'll start becoming a chain pipe smoker.
My tobacconist does have a good selection of Macbarens but don't think I see any Solani. Though my tobacconist recommended me to try Dan Tobacco OLAF POULSSON No 66 once I'm comfortable with my smoking method. That and I'm eyeing Dan Tobacco Sweet Vanilla Honeydew...but with all those tobacco jars hidden in my closet, it might be a start of a bad habit of hoarding stuff I might hardly have the time to smoke.

Hey, another person from Malaysia! Hello! Where are you living and who is your tobacconist? If you're nearby the zoo, we can meetup and chat tobacco. I'll share whatever i know and you can try some blends that you haven't had a chance to yet. Enjoy this new journey!

Hi there jamban! From Pahang here. Though sometimes I might visit my brother in Selangor. I bought stuff from Mytembakaushop since they provide good selection of corn cob pipes though I heard Kamelah Tobacco House is good too. Sure, please do share your tobacco tips, still planning what to buy for this month's stash . Right now trying to enjoy Macbaren Vanilla Cream, left some out to dry a few hours ago.

Arthoz, send me a message when you are in Selangor next, we can plan something. Until then, enjoy the discovery! Pahang is a big state, where exactly are you? Do you have a tobacconist in your area?
