I feel bad about all the rich and tacky New Yorkers who have inflated housing prices in Maine since covid, although it's less entitled finical industry types I have to deal with here.

Southern Coast? Inland? Down East? I first stayed in Maine when I was a kid. Went back every year until I changed coasts 40 years ago, Have been back a number of times, but am really hankering for another trip now.

Welcome! Enjoy the forum and "pipe up" with any questions, observations or anecdotes à la Bert and I!
I’m in southern Maine, Cumberland county. I hope you do make another trip out here, it’s a lot easier now that COVID is under control.

Welcome from Greene, Maine (next town upriver from Lewiston).

I can't recommend any Maine tobacconists to you because the last one I knew of closed several years ago in Lewiston.
My dad grew up in Lewiston, so I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I use to know the area pretty well, and are you talking about Bill Davis tobacco shop? I remember picking up a tin of Mac barren’s Scottish mixture there, burnt my tongue to a crisp. I live close to Freeport so I frequent a shop there, the original owner sold it to a big company the cigarette shopper, but they carry some decent premium tobacco.

I love living in southern Maine, but it’s just too expensive. I work at the front end of a local eatery, and was talking with some construction guys. They were working on a house a couple bought from the bank for three hundred thousand. The house was a little place built in the fifties, and was pretty much condemned. The couple hired these guys to do three hundred thousand dollars worth of work. The construction crew said it would have been easier, and probably cheaper to have had the place torn down, and to build a new place on top of it. I don’t think I’ll understand these people that are moving up here willing to pay way above asking price, and inflated costs.

What's 300 grand? Most days Johny Depp spends half a mil by lunchtime. I bet he thinks what's the use of having money if you don't spend it? His fee is 20 million/movie. 300 million for the "Pirates" movies. What to do with all of that money? Buy estates. He has about a half-dozen last I heard. But I say, Johnny, what's the good of the mansion on the estate unless it is richly appointed? To keep up with all that interior space and buy the ultra expensive doodads must be a real headache. Of course he could pay someone to do that, but hey where's the pride of ownership if you don't do it yourself?

I guess this is a dilemma that only the filthy rich have. Yet I worry about Johnny. I'll send him an email and ask about it.

Greetings everyone! I’ve been a long time lurker, and a pipe smoker on and off for almost ten years. I’ve quit cigarettes almost a year and a half ago, and I mostly smoke cigars. I’m hoping to make pipe smoking a regular hobby, but never really got the hang of it, so I’m hoping to get some advice, and eventually give advice.
Welcome! I just had beautiful trip up to Boothbay Harbor, Pemaquid and Damariscotta. Such a fantastic area.

Greetings. Went to college in Maine in the sixties and lived there between ‘93 and ‘15 when I retired. Taxes drove me out. Wifey worked at The Yard and then Hannaford.7FCF4C83-6F76-4A04-A078-479F01C31916.jpeg
