I think we should name our little group.

If we want to go for something straightforward, I suppose that we might just be The Northeast Wisconsin Pipe Club.

If we want to go for something more colorful, we might play on our being "The Badger State." Google gives me the following badger terminology:

  • Cete: This term, while not as commonly used as "clan," is a collective noun for a group of badgers. The etymology of "cete" is uncertain, but it may be related to the Latin word "coetus" meaning "assembly".

  • Clan: Badgers live in family groups, and these groups are often called clans.

  • Sett: This refers to a badger's burrow, not a group of badgers.

So, I don't know, maybe something like The Northeast Badger State Pipe Clan.

(Although that might be confused with a bagpipe corp!)

Or we could play bagpipes while smoking, and so be Pipes and Pipes.

Or we could do plumbing while playing bagpipes while smoking pipes, and so be Pipes & Pipes & Pipes.

But teasing aside, I think that it may best just to go with something closer to The Northeast Wisconsin Pipe Club.

I play bagpipes but i Think you 3 should be the ones to decide. Im kind of an outsider looking in still

I envy you!

My paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather's paternal grandmother was the daughter of the great-great-great-great grandson of Arthur Johnston, the Scottish poet who served as personal physician to James VI and Charles I.

I've thought of applying for membership in Clan Johnston over this exceedingly strained connection. If I ever did, I'd simply have to learn to play the bagpipes ;-)

If others want to solidify a group name, I'm content with whatever their consensus is.

I like to think we’re all outsiders in some respects: there just aren’t many pipers 😁 left these days. Anyway, only Barry and I have shown for all three meetups, and really Barry is the driving force.

I like Scott’s ideas for names. I would personally go for a shortening like “Northern Badger Pipe Clan” though that implies people for as far afield as Superior and Eau Claire would be included, which are both a long drive from GB.

@Commander McBragg, you ought to be pleased with "Northern Badger Pipe Clan," as it fits your preferred aesthetic nicely:

I just looked for a reference to Mr. Badger smoking in WITW, but there doesn't seem to be one. I thought that I remembered one when Ratty and Mole stumble across his house in the winter and hang out on settles in his kitchen, but I must have been mistaken.

Still, I expect that you could have fun with this idea on your YT channel :)

Hi Everybody,

This is very last-minute, but I happen to be in the GB area for a few days and @Home Brewing Piper and I tentatively hope to get together on Tuesday evening (the 5th).

Although this isn't a scheduled meeting, I thought that I'd throw it out there on the off chance that any of you might be available to jump in?
I’d love to join but we’ve had some busy weeks so I have to stay put in Wausau until our next little journey up to the top of Door Peninsula in two weeks.

If you get a chance to talk about a future meeting, let us know. It’s been lots of fun hanging out with the Northern Badger crowd.

Happy piping!

Barry and I had a great time over his place.
And, Guys, for your future reference:
(a) His place is ridiculously nice. Trust me when I say that you want to hang out there.
(b) His 10 hour pork shoulder smoking abilities are superb. Once again, trust me when I say that you want him to BBQ for us.

Sorry, Barry: You're like the above-average employee who earns more work. ;-)
