I'll see your Mancini-Kim fight, and raise you George Bellows, one of the greatest painters in United States History:

There is no question as to its brutality. That doesn't make it any less of a sport, or any less of a thrilling, gritty part of our country's traditions. I can appreciate why people don't enjoy boxing, but I wonder why few of those opponents appreciate why I like it.

Great artwork. It really captures the visceral nature of the sport.
Love him or hate him, Ali the best heavyweight. He was artful and smart. He could adapt to his opponent better than any heavyweight. A great combination of brains, speed and power - a true boxer.
Pacquiao is already legendary. Can any fighter match his accomplishments? He's one of the best things to happen to boxing in quite a while.

Only speaking of the modern era:
Boxer: Ali
Fighter: Marciano.
ETA: I agree that Pacquiao is great for the game.

Pound-for-pound the best fighter ever was Marvin Hagler IMHO - and Marvelous BEAT Leonard, I don't care what the idiot judges said...
