Some days it just pays to go into antique stores. Given that I'm in the hinterland of Ontario, one would expect to find Canadian pipe makers in the antique, jumble and thrift stores. To be honest, the pipes I come across most often are Medico, and Yello Bole. Today, however, was the exception.
I was able to find a President Series Brigham, a Grade 17 Trypis, a Grade 1 Trypis, and an ungraded Trypis with acrylic stummel; in addition to the pipes, I found three vintage Medico pipe tools, and a fun ceramic pipe ash tray with knocker.
Looks like another Trypis filled week on pipesmagazine.com/forums

Good for you. I can't seem to find any garage sales with pipes included, or anything smoke related.
Just have to be in the right area, and NYC suburbs isn't it, at least where I go.

Nice pickup. Thanks for the pics. Tried antiquing with the wife on Saturday. Came up empty. Hopefully South Dakota isn't void of tobacciana.

Antiquing has been a mostly miss, hit and miss, exercise for me when it comes to acquiring pipes.
I think I'm batting around .250 in actually finding pipes in antique stores, and since I'm swinging for the fences, my "on base percentage" stinks. For non baseball fans, I don't seem to find pipes often, and when I do, they are likely not worth buying and cleaning up.
Here are a couple observations on antique stores with regards to pipes:
1) Take a walk in, and a look around, and see if you can find the "Tobacciana" or "Smokers" corner. Antique shop folks like to pile similar items together. It lets them find stuff when folks ask, and helps them have a home for new acquisitions when they bring in new stock.
2) Open tins, look into old cigar boxes, reach into the bottom of the tobacco jar. Pipes, stems and bowls can and do get tucked into odd places.
3) Ask the person working the store, "Do you have any briar pipes?" Don't be shy, just because you can't find 'em doesn't mean they aren't there. On trips to two different shops this question led me into back rooms, full of stuff, with the proprietor rummaging around to find pipes and a pipe stand.
4) Don't be afraid to haggle. Just because that pipe's tag says $25 doesn't mean it's worth the sticker price. Combining items to reduce the price is a great way to go home with more pipe for less $. Don't be mercenary, everyone needs to make a living, but don't feel like you have to pay full pop, especially if you're on the fence as to the value/worth of that pipe you're eyeing.
Good luck with the scrounging friends, to me this is like fishing... Sometimes I come home with a stringer full, but I always enjoy my time on the water.
Best,
-- Pat

Great haul, Pat!
While I was sick on Friday, my wife went out antiquing. Since there's never anything other than beat-up, no-name pipes laying around, I didn't even ask her to look.
BINGO! She came home with a Falcon that was in great shape, no chatter, very little residue, and no marring. It took an hour to clean up beautifully. The price was $15.00 which is about average. I'm sending her out from now on.

That's the thing about antiquing, you have to be persistent too. The shops in my area change stock constantly, so it's always worth the trip out just in case.
I struck out this weekend mind you...

Nice haul and great tips. Your percentage is a bit higher than mine but asking the owner/clerk is a really good way to increase your odds.

That Brigham is a beauty. I just got one of those that was my grandfather's and I passed it along to my younger brother, who has taken up the pipe. I didn't realize it was the President's series, I thought it was a VIP.
