Drying is the key.

I remember the first time I smoked properly dried out Granger. I knew then that ordering six tubs was going to happen.

btw, I noticed SmokingPipes was sold out. Such a travesty.
I have 4 Granger Tubs arriving Saturday. I order from many places. PM me, Ash. I don’t want to violate Forum rule by recommendation of a seller. But I know where it’s always in stock in stock and $24.99 per 12 ounce. Shhhhhhhhh

Thanks for that. I have eight tubs on my shelves. I was going to grab a tub to get free shipping. But I’ll definitely keep you in mind. :col:

Both coming from STG that makes sense. I'm definitely cellaring both. If you haven't tried EGR its really good too. Big ribbon cuts and I get hints of cinnamon.
I have a small tin of EGR along with one ounce samples of Crooner, Chatham Manor and Epiphany coming from SmokingPipes. Can’t wait to try these. I hear only good things.

Haven't had Chatam Manor but the others are all good blends. One thing I did this year was to buy 1 oz samples of blending tobaccos. I smoked them in a cheap clay pipe. I got the at SP. This helped me understand the flavor profile of the tobacco. I'm no jiminks but I have a better feel for what I'm smoking and what I like.

Anywhere to get the 1.5oz pouch online?

So, far all I’m seeing is the 12oz cans.

A couple of places have it in bulk I assume they are just breaking down tubs.
Is the one I know off of the top of my head.

Of most of the codgers, Granger is the one I've not had the full monty experience with, only because I had already discovered and studied the merits of codger blends like SWR, PA, Carter Hall, and Half and Half, and 'concluded' that while they are all dependable, enjoyable and eminently smokeable, their costs were still what I consider to be at a somewhat premium level.
Most burley I've smoked is topped with some flavoring, and a few seem quite similar.
Ginger, cinnamon, molasses, cocoa, chocolate, clove, mixed with the taste that tobacco imparts makes for a nice combination in various combinations.
There are also some other codger blends with their own iconic profile, like Mixture 79, or from the other side, Condor, and some might add Semois.
Lately I've been enjoying Big 'n Burley, which has virtually no toppings and is one of the strongest nicotine blends I know of, Amphora Burley Blend, which seems topped but is in no way goopy, and is a rich tasting broken flake that burns nicely right out of the pouch, and then, 5 Brothers, which presents as a shredded quality burley, that burns easily and seems to taste similar to Match Edgeworth ready rubbed, or even Classic Burley Kake.
I will attest to the burley is better in a cob phenomenon.

Do you like Haunted Bookshop? That's what I think of when I think of Burley but Granger is nothing like it to me.

I like both but they seem so different and after a few bowls I can say I prefer Granger over HB.

When I was on my Granger search I couldn’t find the pouches anywhere online or in B&Ms. I bought the tub knowing someone here might take the excess off my hand if I didn’t like it but that proved not to be the case for me. I got another tub of that and SWRA LOL

My understanding is Granger stopped making pouches in the 80’s. I could definitely be wrong though

I’ve never smoked Granger, nor know much about them.

@Grangerous, because of his affection he’s shared, and his Granger Pike Soaking Tin Technique, these caught my eye... LOL

Maybe I can twist his arm a little to send me some, I guess as long as all his pipes aren’t soaking in it. :)

I grew up with Granger, l literally, since my dad smoked only Granger from a pouch for about fifty years and quit cold turkey at 65 for a second-career campus job where it was no-smoking. Granger is Kentucky rough cut burley flavored with molasses, although it is often listed as a non-aromatic, but is in fact flavored. Unfortunately, they discontinued the pouch years ago, but some pipe shops sell it by the ounce out of a tub. I don't have it open right now, but I enjoy it and look forward to opening my aging tub at some point. One of my other favorite codger blends is SWR Aromatic, which is burley based, with Virginia as a condiment and flavored with three liqueurs, which is pretty chi-chi for a tub blend. I think it is my favorite aromatic, though I'm mostly a non-aromatic smoker. A footnote: Dad was a minesweeper skipper in the Philippines during WWII, puffing Granger all the way. He smoked only one pipe at a time, no rotation, until it burnt out and split, and then bought another. He would go crazy to see me with ninety some pipes on the rack for smoking about one bowl a day!

Do you find much change in it with ageing?
