I read the reviews of Granger on TR's, and they were going nuts about it, turning themselves inside out about how fantastic it is.
Well, I thought because I like OTC's and Burleys in general, and they are hard to get here in Oz, I'll have to have a crack at this one.
Well after smoking a few bowls, I think I've got the tin, that the dog on the front of the tin, has peed into the leaf.
I can't remember smoking a blend that not only gave me tongue bite, but burnt my hard and soft palate as well. And I draw soft and slow!
So I'll be trading this off, ASAP. About nine ounces, or so, left out of the twelve ounce tin.

My dad was an almost lifelong Granger smoker and smoked from just after breakfast to bedtime, and in his work place, so I am a little partial. Depending on what you usually smoke, it might be an adjustment. It is an aromatic, though it is based on Kentucky rough cut burley, flavored with molasses and maybe anisette. You do have to sip it, but that's good technique anyway. Dad smoked from the age of 15 and quit cold turkey at 65 to take a job on a no-smoking campus, and died at 89 licensed to drive without glasses. You might want to jar Granger and come back to it in a year or two. I did that with Iwan Ries Three Star Blue, and when I came back, what had been harsh was really good.

I had the EXACT same problem. One of my favorite blends is Sir Walter Raleigh not just because of the flavor, but because of how easy it is on my palate. I figured that since Granger is made by the same manufacturer as Sir Walter, and with a similar aniseed topping, that it would be something that I would enjoy as well. WRONG. It bit the living crap out of me as it did you which was incredibly surprising to me considering it’s supposedly so similar to Sir Walter. It was like a mouth pH burn which in my experience can’t really be remedied with tobacco moisture or packing method modifications. You are not alone! I have the entire 7oz tin vacuum sealed up ready to trade. Not super bummed about it because I got it on sale for like $15 from pipesandcigars.

Thanks for that, brother. I'm glad I'm not The Lone Ranger on that score.
And SWR is one of my top three go to's. I don't know whey such 'el cheapo' OTCs are so pleasant to smoke, but if I only had these, I think I could survive. Mind you, I'd need one or two Va's to keep things a bit interesting.

Yeah I honestly don’t see where some of the OTCs get a negative stigma in terms of the flavor they deliver. I feel like if they were never as ubiquitous as they are and have been and had a more expensive price tag more people would be singing their praises. If all I had was Sir Walter to smoke I’d be a happy camper but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying variety. Different strokes for different folks.

@Grangerous your presence is requested.
I find Granger to be the mildest of blends. So mild I have to be careful not to breathe it like air.

I haven’t purchased one of the new 7 ounce tins yet. Lets hope nothing has changed.

Many members have said they’ve been bitten. The most colorful descriptor being “a tasty mouthful of wasps”

Body Chemistry.

Have sent some PM'S back your way @SunriseBoy, but for what it's worth to everybody else and especially any mods reading this thread is I can vouch for him in regards to a trade/sale thread.
We have done a trade ourselves and despite the 100 minimum post count I do remember back in May last year he had a For Sale thread that other members from OZ can vouch for as well.
So there is history there despite the post count and re-join date etc.
Hope that helps!

I had the same reaction to Carter Hall. Glad lots of people like in but it was like having Napalm in my mouth.

Dude, that one for a few of us is like chewing on glass and swishing with Carolina reaper juice, love the flavor tho!
