I was hoping someone could help me identify some pipes my grandfather just gave me. He has over 40 that he is trying to unload on me... so far I've just brought a few home. I think they are some of his favorites and according to him a few are somewhat valuable (if not in price definitely to him). Don't plan on selling any of them, just hoping to get an idea of how rare/valuable they are... Thanks!

This is a Savinelli Autograph Straight Grain. My grandpa said this was his favorite pipe. He also told me that if i took this into a pipe shop "they would have an orgasm" (which was hilarious because I've never heard him say anything like that before). Stem is broken.

This says Dunhill Root Briar. Also has 6R on one side a 4 with a circle around it and an R next to it on the other side.

All this one says is Dunhill and has a 4 with a circle around it on the other side.

This one says Dunhill and has a 4 on it.

This says Capt Warren and has a removable bowl.

Says Knute of Denmark. Also has a 5 with a circle around it and maybe an O or C.

Not sure what this is. Says "Hand Sculpture" and "Made in France" and "Bull".
Thanks again for your help!

I would love to see these but no photos visible... Your descriptions are good though. I'd say you have quite a collection just from what you have described here. Do you have a reputable tobacconist local? They could certainly be of some help. http://pipesmagazine.com/pipe-store-locator/ The pipe store locator may show you something. Good luck.
edit - seeing the links to photos now. Thanks.

Welcome Drewdat,
Your grandfather has a discerning eye for pipes.

The Savinelli Autograph Straight Grain is a beautiful pipe... No doubt.

I'm sure his statement is quite correct.
It will definitely be worth having it re-stemmed.

Dunhills are always worth money! You are a very lucky man to have those pipes gifted to you, everyone of them is beautiful! The grain on the first is unbelievable and with the original stem it would probably fetch a nice amount. Cherish them, a lot of folks on this site would (probably) kill for that collection! Congratulations.

Those are all beautiful! Most importantly, having them handed down to you from family makes them priceless!

that Savinelli is really a nice pipe... find someone that will make that stem for you... or even better put there an original one if possible - this is really a nice pipe...

others are not exactly my taste but the fact they are handed down from you grandpa really means a world.. so, as said before - they are priceless.... take a good care of them...

regards, daniel

Those are all awesome pipes! Grandfather is right about their value being high monetarily and sentimental.

I'd love to see that Savinelli re-stemmed.
Congrats on the gift. I'm sure it'll be cherished.

Grandpa knows his pipes that's for sure. As far as dollar value goes...depending on how they were sold I would say you have a collection worth anywhere from $500.00 to $1200.00. You are right to not sell them though...that is quite a collection of rather high quality pipes. Smoke them and enjoy them and remember your grandfather with every smoke.
