Pipers on this site generally appreciate a selection of pipes and a variety of tobaccos. But I was influenced by my Grandpa who only smoke Walter Raleigh in Medico pipes all day, every day. And he was very happy with that!
Do any of you know pipe smokers who sill only smoke one brand pf tobacco in one brand of pipe?

I know guys who smoke only one blend. Although I started out smoking lots of blends, there was a long period I only smoked one, which might be part of the reason I put down my pipe for maybe 10 years and smoked only cigars instead.
My feeling is - there's this big candy store out there of pipe tobacco. We have easy access to things Grandpa never dreamed of. I, for one, intend to enjoy that. :puffy:

The second part of Jud's post says it all. These days, with any pipe and any tobacco blend just a mouse click away, there's no reason to hermit crab yourself into one blend and one pipe. Marvelous times we live in 8)

While like us all, I too am blessed to have access to an untold variety of tobaccos, and pipes, all just a click and paypal login away, I find myself more and more taking a break from it and spending several days with something as simple and mundane as a MM cob and a simple smoke like SWR or CH.

I think its just fine to do that! I think the mane reason for that was selection and money. I myself like variety but recently with all my tobacco have been smoking CH I love the stuff.

For 35 years I smoked little else than Carter Hall, and still have 3-5 bowls of it a day. Since 1995 I haven't bought anything other than corncobs, which I smoke 98% of the time. I now have expaned my choice of blends, but could easily smoke only Carter Hall, Velvet, and two Mac Baren blends if I had to.

It wouldn't be hard at all to stick to one brand of pipe, there's such quality makers out there.
But it's hard for me to imagine not getting a little bored with one blend/brand of tobacco indefinitely.

I think I am turning into that guy.

4 pipes and Frog Morton most of the time.

My father in law was 2 pipes and Sir Walter Raleigh.

I don't think I could do that now. I've already been corrupted by the internet and the outrageous variety available here in the States. It's hard to imagine back to pre-interwebs days, but I could chill with my Meer and some 1-Q (or its clones) if I had to. As much as I love my überbadass Lat blends, It would have taken much more effort back in the day to find them.
I still remember when you had to take flyers to every town your band was playing in and staplegun them to phone poles to get the word out there was a show. Now I manage mostly 1-man bands that sell their stuff on iTunes and the like. That and having to pay S#!tloads of money for studio time for worse quality sound than I can record here at home for half the price, equipment and time wise.

My Granddad always smoked Sir Walter Raleigh in a Dr. Grabow Golden Duke. Never saw him smoke anything else.

What we did have, back then, was a whole lot more B&M pipe shops, many of whom had their own blends that weren't relabeled Lane's. Every good college town had one or more. I was smoking badass latakia blends in college. And although we didn't have the net, a lot of those guys did - and still do - mail order of their blends. I know 4 old-time pipe shops here in Michigan that have no e-commerce, but have a lot of mail-order sales.

Even drugstores had more blends than they do now.
Yeah, these are the good ol' days for pipe smokers - but it wasn't that grim back then.

I think it's so nice to try a variety personally, so I couldn't imagine being restricted to one. To each their own though.

Grandpa prefered Half&Half in a cob and loved black jelly beans now I know why. I dont like black jelly beans and I really dont care for Half & Half but I could smoke Carter Hall in a cob every day and i am thinking I may start doing that and trying to build up a good cellar

I smoke mostly OTC burleys, especially Carter Hall and Prince Albert--usually in a Grabow, although I have a bunch of Grabows. Don't care for aro's anymore,Va-pers set me on fire and I can only handle latakia in small doses, usually Middletons Walnut. I have some virginias and a couple of English blends. Have tried many tobaccos, but I still prefer burleys.

My grandpa smoked lawn clippings out of a bent Coke can.
Not funny? Sorry.
I'm too new to pipe smoking to contemplate one blend only. I feel this compulsion to try everything...probably why I'm interested. However, I am that guy that parks in the same spot everyday at work so maybe one-blend-only is in my future.
