Hey there pipe forum fam. I see I got tagged as a lurker and don't want to come across this way. My name is Greg and my interests in pipes and tobacco started with my memories of how my great grandpa smelled and my grandpa. My mom and her sisters each got one of his pipes when my greatgrandpa died and I acquired my dad's delchester shortly before he passed. I like the smell, the atmosphere, and the comradere of a good cigar or pipe session. I also like refurbishing things and crafty-related stuff (also doing bonsai and have done jewelry-making in the past).

Big fan of giving things a new life and sharing the experience. Recently bought some lots off of ebay and have been slowly refurbishing them and modifying as needed. Areas I need guidance on as making this a business and keeping my own collection going:

1) Techiques for refinishing and refurbishing and modifying (e.g. have gone through 3 iterations of pipe mud/mortar and found 1 that is food-safe and sturdier than reported pipe mud... so far, time will tell...)

2) Tobacco blends people like and taste-testing tips (besides get a cob or 5).

3)estimating prices of pipes I dont see much of (can do that on my own too, but you guys have uber more experience and tact in it... learning).

4) the history and fun of the craft and trade.

I got a few boxes of pipes to start and some progress to smoking and refurbishing perfection. Any advice is always welcome (always learning and willing to hear things out).

Live in NE Ohio and the Rack in Akron is like 10 min from where I work.

Blessings all and happy future collecting/refabing/communing/and funning!

Hello and welcome from Orcas, WA! look forward to seeing what you can do with your resto's. The What are you Smoking thread is a great place to make a post when you smoke a pipe.

Hi and the little thing under you forum name is really just a marker of how long you've been here/how chatty you are here. Doesn't really mean much. To be honest the main thing it does for me is make me wonder how I missed all the other posts that some people must have made since they're part of the furniture now.
